Job summary

The CORE Institute is seeking a Medical Assistant to support orthopedic and spine teams in a outpatient clinic setting. You will help prepare patients for visits, document vitals, review intake forms, and assist with procedures and prescriptions under provider direction.

You will maintain exam rooms, manage EMR entries, and assist with program initiatives while adhering to HIPAA and clinic standards. A CMA/RMA/CCMA certification with active membership and recent training is preferred.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years in orthopedics, spine, or pain management preferred.
• CMA/RMA/CCMA/NCMA certification with proof of current membership or grandfathered status per state regulation.
• Pass MA competency exam within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate communication between patient and provider; prepare patient for visit, rooming, vitals, intake review, radiology images, dressings, injections, EMR data entry.
• Assist with tasks supporting PROs, Quality Payment Programs, and company initiatives.
• Maintain HIPAA-compliant environment and clean, stocked exam rooms; manage EMR desktops for assigned providers.

Minimum Qualifications

• 1-2 years of experience in orthopedics, spine surgery, or pain management is preferred.
• In lieu of experience must have the following training and/or experience:
• Graduated from a formal training program during the last 12-18 months, and have the CMA certificate;
• OR, Is grandfathered in as defined by State regulation.
• The employee must pass the MA competency exam within the first six months of employment.
• Active Medical Assistant certification such as Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) with proof of current membership from American Medical Technologists (AMT) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) with proof of current membership from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) with proof of current membership from National Health Career Association (NHA) (Test administered after 7/1/2017 only) or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) with proof of current membership from National Certified Competency Testing (NCCT), or per State regulations
• Experience with office medical procedures and treatments and knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR and scheduling software.
• Certification or additional training must meet the requirements for meaningful use.
• BLS certification require
• High school diploma/GED, and graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program as defined by state regulations.

Preferred

• Two years of experience in an outpatient physical therapy clinic. Experience with orthopedics

Essential Functions

• Facilitates communication between the patient and the provider during patient care:
• Collect and shares pertinent information with the provider
• Receives and acts on directives from the provider
• Responsible for preparing the patient for visit with the provider. Duties include but are not limited to, rooming patients, obtaining and documenting vitals, reviewing intake paperwork, pulling up radiology images, removing dressings, procedure set-up, injection prep, accurate data entry into EMR.
• Responsible for completing tasks associated with Company initiatives such as PROs, Quality Payment Programs, etc.
• Maintains exam room standards. Rooms should be restocked at the end of each clinic day. Rooms and tables should be cleaned as needed during the clinic and at the end of each day.
• Monitor biohazard and sharps containers and replace them as needed.
• Assist the provider in preparing patient prescriptions and completing medical and patient forms (i.e. work release, FMLA, etc.).
• Retrieves and responds to voicemails within 24 business hours and documents actions in EMR.
• Prepares patient electronic charts for clinic visits before the date of service.
• Verify any outstanding testing results are in EMR, confirm the appropriateness of the patient to the provider (body part and/or insurance), note imaging, DME, or casting needed prior to provider visit on the date of service.
• Scans clinical documents into EMR.
• Print clinic schedules on the morning of the date of service.
• Ensures patient receives education as indicated by the provider.
• Manages EMR desktops of assigned providers in a timely manner.
• Act as PTO Buddy per clinic plan
• Create and promote a positive patient experience
• Maintain HIPAA compliant environment
• Maintain clean workspace
