Job summary

Hospital for Special Surgery is seeking a Regular Full-time Medical Assistant in our Westchester office. You will work Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:15 PM, supporting orthopedic and rheumatology care. Responsibilities include patient intake, vital signs, specimen handling, and assisting providers in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment.

Minimum requirements include a High School diploma and BLS Certification. The base compensation is around $34.47 per hour, with eligibility for benefits.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent to qualify for Medical Assistant role.
• BLS Certification required for patient-care responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams in the Westchester office and the Ortho Now program.
• Escort patients to exam rooms and prepare them for examinations, reviewing patient data for rooming in Epic.
• Assist physicians, nurses and staff by obtaining vital signs, lab specimens, and EKGs as needed.
• Prepare specimens for the lab and hand off to courier.
• Support patient throughput, deliver excellent customer service, and maintain a professional environment.
• Assist the physician in treatments and procedures and ensure orders are completed promptly.
• Maintain sensitivity to cultural and religious diversity when interacting with patients and staff.
• Participate in a supportive, team-oriented environment.
• Prepare patients for exams and orient them to the environment.
• Assist with disinfecting exam rooms and clinical spaces between patients.
• Assist patients with wayfinding and transport around the site (wheelchair, etc.).
• Help manage patient information, upload CD images and copy relevant exams.
• Assist with patient rooming tasks (medical history, vital signs, etc.).
• Stock exam rooms and ensure care areas are neat and presentable.
• Provide exceptional customer service to patients, visitors, and staff; respond to inquiries.
• Perform any additional duties as directed.

Compensation Range

The base pay scale for this position is $34.47 - $34.47. In addition, this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to: scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation. The hiring range listed is a good faith determination of potential compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.

Medical Assistant

Scope of Duties:

• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams within the Westchester office and supporting the Ortho Now program (Registration/Front Desk, Physician Practice, Research, EMG, TMS)

• Escorting patients to exam rooms and preparing them for examinations, reviewing patient statuses and assisting in obtaining patient data required for the rooming functions in Epic

• Support the department by assisting the physicians, nurses and other personnel by obtaining vital signs, lab specimens (skin biopsy, venipuncture) and EKG’s as needed

• Preparing specimens for the lab and ensuring hand-off to courier

• Foster efficient patient throughput, deliver excellent customer service, and establish and maintain an organized professional environment.

• Assist the physician in treatments and procedures and ensure physician orders are completed in a timely manner.

• Maintain sensitivity and awareness of cultural and religious diversity when addressing patients, visitors, co-workers and other customers.

• Participate in our supportive and team-oriented environment.

• Prepare patients for exams and orient patient/family to the environment

• Assist with disinfecting exam rooms and other clinical work space between patient use

• Assist patients with wayfinding and transport (e.g., wheelchair) throughout the site

• Assist in managing patient information, uploading CD images & making copies of pertinent exams

• Assist with patient rooming tasks (i.e., medical history, vital signs, pulse oximeter readings, height/weight, temperature, etc.)

• Assist with stocking exam rooms

• Ensure patient care areas are neat and presentable

• Provide exceptional customer service to all patients, visitors, and staff

• Respond to patient, visitor, and staff inquiries

• Additional responsibilities as directed

Minimum Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent to at least one year of experience as , Medical Assistant, or previous member of armed medical corps

• BLS Certification
