Join Our Team as a Full-Time Medical Assistant at UPMC Foot and Ankle of NWPA!

Are you a dedicated Medical Assistant seeking a dynamic, rewarding opportunity in a supportive healthcare environment? UPMC’s Foot and Ankle of NWPA practice in Erie, PA, is looking for a full-time Medical Assistant to join our team! Enjoy a consistent Monday through Friday schedule with daylight hours—typically 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.—and no weekends or holidays required. This role offers the unique chance to travel 3-4 days per month between multiple office locations in Erie and Meadville, providing variety and the chance to collaborate with diverse teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate daily schedules and patient flow.
  • Accompany patients to exam or procedure rooms and assist with mobility, dressing, specimen collection, and exam preparation.
  • Collect patient histories, vital signs, and perform screenings in accordance with provider guidelines.
  • Communicate care instructions clearly to patients and families to ensure understanding and continuity of care.
  • Send and receive patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations.
  • Prepare patient rooms and set up instruments and equipment in accordance with department protocols.
  • Clean exam and procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to ensure proper infection control.
  • Follow scheduled maintenance programs for cleaning and maintain accurate records.
  • Manage supply inventory and restock exam and procedure rooms as needed.
  • Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health) and all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.
  • Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, level one labs, and clinic procedures in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Assist physicians with clinical procedures to support patient care.
  • Document patient information accurately and thoroughly in the medical record.
  • Answer calls and provide pertinent information, including patient education, as directed.
  • Obtain lab and x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, and complete necessary forms and requisitions.
  • Schedule patient appointments and coordinate follow-up as needed.
  • Verify insurance coverage and confirm patient demographics for accuracy.
  • Prepare and manage patient charts to ensure all information is complete, up-to-date, and properly filed.
  • Perform other front office responsibilities as required.
  • Administer injectable medication and vaccines when appropriate under the direction and supervision of a physician.
