Job summary

The Surgical Clinic (TSC) is seeking a Float Medical Assistant to support patients and physicians across multiple clinical settings in Middle Tennessee. Travel between locations is required to assist clinics in need, ensuring high-quality patient care and seamless operations.

Ideal candidates have hands-on clinical experience, familiarity with EHRs (preferably eClinicalWorks), and capability to triage, obtain vital signs, and educate patients on tests and pre/post-surgical care.

Qualifications

• Current LPN or Medical Assistant license is preferred.
• Experience charting in an EHR (eClinicalWorks preferred).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Word.
• Ability to learn common medications and surgeries quickly.
• Solid understanding of sterile technique and aseptic practices.

Responsibilities

• Assist physician in clinical office to ensure patient care.
• Triage patients and assist during in-office procedures.
• Obtain vital signs accurately and escalate when abnormal.
• Collect, label and document lab specimens.
• Retrieve documents from EHR systems for results and reports.
• Schedule imaging, surgeries, labs, and other interventions as directed.
• Obtain prior authorizations for tests and/or surgeries.
• Send referrals and maintain communication with community partners.
• Communicate with the patient’s care team and triage calls.
• Provide patient education for tests, pre/post-surgical care, medications, and other concerns.
• Contact patients with test results as directed; reach out to pharmacies for med orders.
• Document all patient care in the EHR.
• Maintain stock of medications and supplies; keep rooms clean.
• Sterilize instruments and uphold infection control standards.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

This position will require travel due to changes in assigned location. The focus of the Float MA is to provide support to the clinics in need to ensure we are providing the best patient care. This role requires a strong individual with a positive attitude and solid background in the clinical setting.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Assist physician in clinical office setting to ensure patient careTriage patients and provide assistance during in office proceduresObtain vital signs accurately, understand normal vs. abnormal, and the escalation processCollect, label and document lab specimensObtain documents from various EHR systems for results and reportsSchedule interventions as directed such as imagining, surgeries, labs, etc.Obtain prior authorizations when needed for tests and/or surgeriesSend referrals as directed and maintain good communication with community partnersCommunicate with patient’s care team when needed (i.e. new orders for skilled nursing facility/hospital)Triage patient phone calls and communicate provider instructions accuratelyProvide patient education for tests, pre/post-surgical care, medications, and other patient concernsContact patients regarding test results as directedContact pharmacies regarding medication orders/changes etc.Documentation in EHR of all patient careMaintain adequate stock of medications and suppliesKeep patient rooms and nurse station cleanSterilize instrumentsPerform other related duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTSCurrent LPN or current Medical Assistant License is preferredMaintain Quality OSHA Controls and HIPAA complianceExperience in charting into an electronic health record (eClinicalWorks experience is preferred)Experience in Microsoft programs (Outlook and Word)Ability to quickly learn common medications used in practice (name, action, and side effects)Ability to learn common surgeries and recognize/triage the complications associated with themGeneral understanding of sterile technique, surgical equipment, and human anatomyPHYSICIAL REQUIREMENTS:The physical requirements listed are representative of those that may be faced by a Medical Assistant throughout their scope of employment.
