Job Description

Assists in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician.

Responsibilities
  1. Maintains patient flow during clinic hours.
  2. Documents review of systems; measures vital signs such as pulse rate, respirations, blood pressure, weight, and height (see Appendix A for specifics); updates past and current medical, social, and family history; reviews medications and updates medication list at each visit.
  3. Records patient information accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  4. Assists in training new employees if needed.
  5. Prepares patient charts in EMR for visits by scanning, abstracting, and reviewing documents to ensure all necessary diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and other medical records are included.
  6. Accesses and navigates websites or contacts outside facilities to obtain necessary information.
  7. May serve as Super User for the EMR system.
  8. Refills and pre-authorizes medications, communicating with patients, pharmacies, or insurance companies as needed.
  9. Maintains records of patient samples and medications, disposes of expired medications.
  10. Prepares examination rooms, maintains cleanliness, and orders medical supplies as needed.
  11. Completes patient assistance paperwork and requests.
  12. Gathers pertinent medical information from patients to facilitate medical decision-making per office protocols.
  13. Returns calls and responds to MyChart messages as needed.
  14. Works with work queues in EMR/Practice Management systems, possibly coordinating office workflows.
  15. Answers calls, schedules appointments, checks patients in and out, and completes pre-certifications for prescriptions, procedures, and surgeries.
  16. Operates diagnostic equipment such as EKGs and cardiac monitors; performs clinical duties like phlebotomy and cast removal as assigned.
  17. Ensures a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and regulations.
  18. Maintains patient confidentiality and adheres to legal responsibilities.
  19. Supports quality measures and enhances patient experience.
Qualifications
Knowledge and Skills

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate Degree and/or Certified/Registered Medical Assistant preferred; graduation from a Medical Assistant program or relevant experience required.

Experience: 2 to 5 years of MA or relevant healthcare experience preferred; experience in various care settings is advantageous.

Skills and Knowledge: Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, EMR, and scheduling systems required; excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary; willingness to travel between offices; clinical skills such as phlebotomy, EKG, stitches removal, splinting, etc., are highly preferred.

Licenses & Certifications

Certified/Registered Medical Assistant preferred; BLS certification required; must complete skills orientation successfully.
