Job Summary

Assist physicians and physician assistants with the care of patients in the medical office; preparing for their visit through pre‑visit planning, rooming patients, reconciling medications within the EMR system, performing office clerical duties and medical assistant duties such as vital signs and ECGs.

Essential Functions
  • Prepare examination rooms and patient charts.
  • Escort patients to rooms and prepare them for examinations.
  • Accurately record height, weight and blood pressure from patient visits; chart or enter findings into the electronic health record.
  • Ask patient or guardian about the reason for visit and document.
  • Prepare charts for upcoming patient visits with proper paperwork necessary for the visit.
  • Perform vision and hearing screenings as requested by the physician or provider.
  • Assist physicians and physician extenders as needed with sick visits, preventive care visits, and paperwork preparation.
  • Clean and restock rooms and equipment on a daily basis by the end of day.
  • Assist with securing referrals and making specialist or test appointments.
  • Relay messages to patients as may be required by physicians or physician extenders.
  • Assist the front desk staff as necessary with answering phones and filing.
  • Perform phlebotomy by venipuncture or finger stick.
  • Prepare for urine culture and analysis.
  • Prepare for and run strep tests and all other laboratory tests.
  • Assist physicians, physician extenders, and nurses with procedures.
  • Prepare instruments for autoclave.
  • Assist with bringing charts to and from the front desk if applicable.
  • Prepare new patient charts.
  • File patient visit documents and notes.
  • Support the front desk with reception responsibilities.
  • Document within the electronic health record (EHR) accurately and thoroughly, when available.
Qualifications
  • High School Required.
  • Certificate Preferred or Certificate Preferred.
  • 1‑3 years work experience in a hospital setting or medical office.
  • Preferred: Phlebotomy (Medium proficiency).
  • Preferred: Medical Records System (Medium proficiency).
  • Preferred: Taking Vitals (High proficiency).
  • Preferred: Medical Assistant.
