The Medical Assistant assists physicians in assessing, examining, and treating patients.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage patient flow and perform diagnostic procedures such as EKGs, phlebotomy, injections, and vitals.
  • Act as a liaison to physicians to ensure patient satisfaction.
  • Maintain and order supplies for their area as needed. Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff in accordance with Jefferson's values. Escort patients to exam rooms and ensure proper identification.
  • Perform and document vital signs, clinical care quality measures, and medical history information.
  • Remain proficient and knowledgeable regarding the use and documentation within information technology systems within the scope of practice.
  • Assist physicians with examinations and diagnostic procedures, and perform EKG and venipuncture/injections as needed.
  • Adhere to HIPAA privacy and security requirements.
  • Order clinical supplies to maintain inventory and facilitate smooth operations.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Familiarity with medical office procedures.

Education & Experience:

  • HS Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Medical Assistant Certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • BLS through the American Red Cross may be acceptable at some Pennsylvania locations.
  • Experience in a physician office or healthcare setting preferred.
  • For NJ only: Graduate of an accredited post-secondary medical assisting program with at least 330 hours of instruction, including training in injections.
  • For internal Einstein applicants: Medical Assistant certification is not required if currently employed in a Medical Assistant role within Einstein before 7/1/2024.
