Join Our Team as a Medical Assistant - Float (Mon-Fri 8AM-5PM)

Are you ready to take your healthcare career to the next level? Legacy Community Health is looking for a dynamic Medical Assistant to join our innovative team in Houston, TX. This forward-thinking role allows you to impact community healthcare while working across multiple clinics (Alief, Sharpstown, Gulfton, Stafford and Missouri City) enhancing patient care and collaborating with dedicated professionals. As a Float Medical Assistant, you'll be an essential part of our mission to provide accessible, quality healthcare to diverse populations.

In this vital role, you'll be assisting providers in exams and minor office procedures, traveling between clinics based on business needs and patient volume. Your contributions will help maintain efficient clinic operations and ensure our patients receive the highest quality of care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct patient interviews to gather medical information and measure vital signs, weight, and height.
  • Record medical histories, vital statistics, and test results with accuracy and detail in patient records.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens, ensuring they are properly logged and ready for testing.
  • Assist physicians by handling instruments during examinations and treatments, including administering injections and removing sutures.
  • Prepare treatment rooms by cleaning and restocking, ensuring a sterile environment.
  • Clean and sterilize medical instruments, managing the disposal of contaminated materials safely.
  • Provide phone consultations regarding test results and health concerns.
  • Perform phlebotomy and other diagnostic tests as needed; administer various types of medication under direction.
  • Ensure the proper documentation of all patient care activities.
  • Maintain exam room supplies, check stock expiry dates, and manage biohazard waste.
  • Contribute to OSHA compliance through participation in safety programs and accident prevention plans.
  • Engage in Legacy’s Performance Improvement Program, promoting a respectful and professional environment.
  • Work collaboratively within a primary care medical home model, ensuring timely access to culturally appropriate care.
  • Participate in safety training and demonstrate proper equipment use and body mechanics to maintain a safe workplace.
  • Uphold Legacy's exposure control plans by applying universal precautions.
  • Participate in annual education programs and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • BLS/CPR Certification required.
  • Up to one year of experience in a similar role preferred.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Basic experience in front desk, clerical, or healthcare support preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with clinical staff and within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to preventive health care and a team-based delivery approach.
  • Experience with computers and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required.
  • Experience with electronic medical records is a plus.
