Medical Assistant Float (16 to 40 hours/week)

Henry Ford Health System’s internal staffing resource pool ensures sufficient staffing throughout our health system. It addresses unplanned or short-term staffing needs due to vacations, call-offs, leave of absences, or increases in census or acuity.

Medical Assistants will float to various Henry Ford clinics to provide coverage. Minimum commitment is 2 days per week with opportunities to work up to a full schedule. Must be flexible on location and clinic.

Hours are primarily Monday through Friday, 8-hour shifts. Occasional weekend opportunities (optional) with pay differential.

Under supervision of providers and nursing leadership, performs administrative and clinical tasks to support quality, compassionate patient care. Responsibilities include greeting and escorting patients, taking medical histories, recording vital signs, preparing patients for exams, and assisting during examinations/procedures. Demonstrates clinical competence as a Medical Assistant.

Education/Experience Requirements
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with a clinical externship (minimum 160 hours) and at least one year of verifiable clinical experience OR
  • Graduate from a Medical Assistant program without externship but with at least one year of recent clinical medical assisting experience within the past five years.
  • Current recognized Medical Assistant Certification with at least five years of clinical experience.
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
  • Licensed Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with at least one year of clinical experience.
  • Military-trained medical personnel with at least one year of recent clinical experience in a medical setting within the past five years. Ability to perform a wide range of clinical skills related to ambulatory patient care.
  • Basic computer skills and keyboarding.
  • Successful completion of HFMG pharmacology class and test.
Certifications/Licenses Required
  • Current BLS (American Heart Association).
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferred.
