Job description

Performs patient care under the physician's/nurse's direct supervision. Duties include preparing patients for physicians, administering treatments, obtaining and recording diagnostic laboratory test results. Assists in coordinating care to meet patient needs, including preparing, organizing, and filing reports into the medical record.

Job Responsibilities

1. Collaborates with healthcare team members to coordinate and implement patient care plans; records reasons for visits and relevant patient information for review.
2. Performs vital signs, height, weight, and screening procedures such as head circumference, audiometry, and vision tests; documents findings in the medical record.
3. Collects and assists providers in specimen collection, following protocols like infection control; completes requisitions, labels, and routes specimens appropriately.
4. Performs and documents calibration of laboratory equipment; reports inaccuracies to supervisor.
5. Performs electrocardiograms and phlebotomy as per provider orders, adhering to infection control standards.
6. Assists physicians and nurses with procedures like lumbar puncture and pelvic exams, following protocols for infection control and patient safety.
7. Maintains cleanliness and order in examination rooms; stocks supplies and completes required logs and checks.
8. Participates in pre-visit chart preparation, ensuring documentation is available for review.
9. Performs clerical tasks such as filing, processing insurance forms, and managing patient flow.
10. All duties are considered essential under the Americans with Disabilities Act; related duties not listed but relevant are also part of the role.

This is a float position requiring travel to various sites.

Job Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a Medical Assistant training program with certification OR 1-3 years experience as a medical assistant, emergency medical technician, or certified nursing attendant with a valid certificate OR successful completion of the Northwell Health Medical Assistant training program.
