Job Profile Summary

This role involves providing medical and clinical support services to patients, including preparing patient rooms, escorting patients, taking vitals, assisting physicians, and performing clerical duties to support clinical operations. It requires specialized knowledge gained through vocational education, training, and experience, primarily applied to patient care or scientific/laboratory roles. As a senior level position, it demands broad operational knowledge, the ability to work independently, lead, and train entry-level staff.

Job Overview

Under the supervision of licensed personnel, this position ensures efficient patient flow in outpatient settings, serving as a patient liaison with both clinical and administrative duties. It plays a key role in revenue cycle, clinical operations, and enhancing patient experience. The role involves responding to patient volume fluctuations, preparing for patient care, and assisting within scope of practice, including administering immunizations as needed.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical Assistant National Certification from a recognized body (AAMA, AMCA, AMT, NCCT, or NHA).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification or obtain within three months.
  • Two years of Medical Assistant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three years of Medical Assistant experience.
  • Bilingual abilities.
  • Experience with electronic medical records.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage patient flow, communicate delays, and adjust room utilization accordingly.
  • Prepare and verify medical records, including patient interviews.
  • Provide excellent customer service in all interactions.
  • Create a safe, comfortable environment for patients and families.
  • Escort patients, ensure their comfort, privacy, and safety.
  • Conduct fall risk assessments and monitor patients as needed.
  • Prepare exam rooms and assist providers with exams, treatments, and procedures.
  • Record vital signs, medication lists, and perform specimen collection and Point of Care Testing.
  • Assist with diagnostic and surgical arrangements, billing, and documentation.
  • Maintain medical supplies and participate in quality improvement activities.
  • Provide administrative support, including scheduling and communication.
  • Administer immunizations and train new staff or students.
  • Potentially cover satellite locations as required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasional lifting of 30-35 pounds, patient turning, and prolonged standing/walking.
  • Exposure to infectious diseases, chemicals, and blood-borne pathogens.
  • Manual dexterity and sensory acuity for patient care.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize.
  • Ability to work independently with accuracy and follow-through.
  • Proficiency with computers and electronic medical records.
  • Effective communication skills in English, interpersonal skills, and knowledge of universal precautions.
  • Competency in providing age-specific care, maintaining confidentiality, and making patient safety decisions.
