Job summary

PeaceHealth is seeking a Medical Assistant - Family Practice for a Per Diem/Relief, 0.00 FTE, Day shift position in Eugene, Oregon. The role supports physicians and care teams, preparing patients, assisting in procedures, and maintaining clinic operations.

Qualified candidates will have an accredited Medical Assistant program, MOA certification eligibility or MOA eligibility, and basic life support. Prior medical office experience is preferred; certification is required per Oregon guidelines.

Qualifications

• Accredited Medical Assistant program required.
• MOA certification exam eligibility considered for MOA candidates.
• Apprenticeship required for Medical Assistant role.
• Minimum 1 year experience in a medical office preferred.
• National Medical Assistant Certification required (various certs accepted per Oregon/Alaska policy).
• Basic Life Support at hire is required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for examination; record history and vital signs.
• Prepare exam rooms; maintain supplies and equipment.
• Administer injections; apply splints and wound care per provider orders.
• Sterilize and prepare equipment; handle specimen transport.
• Assist in scheduling tests and follow-up appointments.
• Maintain patient files and enter data into the EMR.
• Provide phone screening to clinical staff as needed.
• Collaborate with staff to ensure smooth clinic operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

PeaceHealth is seeking a Medical Assistant - Family Practice for a Per Diem/Relief, 0.00 FTE, Day position.

The salary range for this job opening at PeaceHealth is $25.62 – $34.58. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.

This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement. There may be more than one opening on this posting.

Job Summary

In collaboration with the healthcare team, assists physicians/providers in the delivery of patient care working within the scope of practice for a Medical Assistant.

Essential Functions

• Prepares patients for examination and treatment or anesthesia interview as applicable. Takes and records patient history and vital signs as applicable.

• Prepares exam and/or treatment rooms; selects, setup and maintains medical supplies and equipment for all examinations, procedures and/or anesthesia interview as applicable.

• Gives injections, applies splints and dressings, and facilitates simple wound management under provider orders.

• Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization.

• May transport specimens.

• May assist in scheduling patients for tests, initial and follow up appointments.

• May maintain patient files, records, and other information including entry of data into electronic medical record.

• May provide phone screening of the patient to appropriate clinical staff and/or physician.

• Collaborates with a variety of personnel and departments to ensure smooth clinic operations.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Accredited Program Required: Medical Assistant or

• Accredited Program Required: Medical Office Assistant that allows caregiver to sit for the MOA certification exam will be considered (e.g. associate degree in Allied Health) or

• Apprenticeship Required: Medical Assistant

• Minimum of 1 year Preferred: experience in a medical office

• Required: National Medical Assistant Certification OREGON AND ALASKA REQUIREMENT ONLY: When referring to the National Certification requirement, the following are acceptable in meeting that requirement. Certified Medical Assistant through the American Association of Medical Assistants AAMA; Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through the American Medical Technologists (AMT); Clinical Medical Assistant certification through the National Health Career Associates (NHA); National Certified Medical Assistant through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT); Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) administered by the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA); Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through American Allied Health (AAH); Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant administered by the National Association for Health Professionals (NAHPUSA) or

• Required: Upon Hire Basic Life Support

OREGON:

• Education: NHA CCMA certification fulfills the education requirement.

PHMG – Primary Care Medical Home:

• Uses decision support functions of EHR in tandem with standing order/protocols to manage patient populations.

• Assists provider in documenting details of patient encounter, order tests and referrals.

Working Conditions

• Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).

• Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.

• Push/Pull: Frequently up to 45 lbs. force (i.e., WOW, medical carts).

• Perform hands on CPR at least 20 mins using 100-125 lbs. of force (National Assoc. of EMS Physicians and AHA) Frequency should be seldom or occasionally.

• Ability to move around area with frequent sitting.

• Bending/ stooping/ squatting/ reaching/ kneeling frequently.

• Lifting (non-patient) up to 20 lbs. occasionally and 5 lbs. frequently.

• Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.

• Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy environment.

• Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).

• Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
