Job summary

Henry Ford Health in Clinton Township, MI is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our Family Medicine team. Under supervision, you will perform a mix of administrative and clinical tasks to support compassionate patient care and efficient clinic operations.

You will welcome patients, record vital signs, obtain histories, prepare for exams, assist providers, and handle phlebotomy, immunizations, and point-of-care testing. A collaborative culture supports professional growth.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required. Basic computer skills.
• Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with externship (160 hours) or 1 year clinical experience in medical assisting.
• Current Medical Assistant certification or LPN/EMT credentials may be required.
• EMR experience (EPIC) preferred.

Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY: Under direct supervision of the provider and/or nursing leadership, the Medical Assistant performs a variety of administrative and clinical tasks to assist in the quality and compassionate care provided to patients. These duties may include but are not limited to the greeting and escorting of patients to the exam room, obtaining medical histories, the measurement and recording of vital signs, preparing patients for an examination/procedure, and assisting the provider during the examination/procedure.

Schedule

• Monday–Friday: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
• Includes one late evening shift and alternating Saturdays

What You’ll Do

As a Medical Assistant, you will support both clinical and administrative functions, including:

• Welcoming and rooming patients
• Taking and recording vital signs
• Obtaining patient medical histories
• Preparing patients for exams and procedures
• Assisting providers during exams and treatments
• Performing:

  • Immunizations
  • Point-of-care (POC) testing
• Setting up exam and procedure rooms

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills preferred. Ability to perform a wide variety of clinical skills as related to ambulatory patient care preferred. Ability to problem-solve preferred. Possess effective interpersonal and communication skills preferred. EPIC (Electronic Medical Record) experience preferred. Additional Requirements: Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with completion of a formal clinical externship (160 hour minimum). OR Graduate from a Medical Assistant program without completion of a clinical externship but with a minimum one-year experience in clinical medical assisting within the past five (5) years. OR Current Professionally Recognized Medical Assistant Certification with a minimum of one year of experience in clinical medical assisting. OR
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Licensed Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with at least one-year clinical experience in clinical medical setting within the past five (5) years. OR Military trained medical personnel with at least one-year clinical experience in clinical medical setting within the past five (5) years. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED: Current BLS-C upon hire or successful completion by end of orientation.
