Job summary

Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta seeks a patient care professional to support multiple disciplines within the department. You will provide direct and indirect patient care under physician-led delegation and contribute to a safe environment.

The role requires 1 year of relevant experience (MA/PCT) or completion of MA externship, pediatric exposure, and BLS within 30 days. Strong communication and teamwork are essential, with duties spanning clinical and administrative tasks.

Qualifications

• 1 year of experience in the role of medical assistant, patient care tech or equivalent or have completed Medical Assistant Externship at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta
• 1 year experience in pediatrics, including obtaining vitals, assisting clinical staff with patient care, phlebotomy, and specimen collection procedures
• High school diploma and completion of a medical assistant training program or EMT/hospital-based training
• BLS certification within 30 days of employment
• Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills

Responsibilities

• Assists in basic delivery of patient care as assigned by licensed professionals
• Completes assigned tasks/orders from provider
• Demonstrates competency during intake process, including accurate vital signs
• May perform phlebotomy, simple medication or vaccine administration, spirometry, and radiographs under supervision
• Uses strong organization and communication to prioritize and document patient care
• Handles multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining customer service
• Acts as liaison between patients/families and department staff
• Performs administrative duties: opening/closing procedures, phones, waiting area materials, restocking beverages, wait-time boards
• Complies with infection control, safety and OSHA procedures
• Demonstrates age-specific competencies across Neonate to Adolescent and Adult

Job Description

Supports all disciplines within department to provide indirect and direct patient care activities. Proactively supports efforts that result in delivery of safe patient care and services and promote a safe environment at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Can perform assigned tasks under the delegation of a physician, advanced practice registered nurse, or physician assistant.

Experience

• 1 year of experience in the role of medical assistant, patient care tech or equivalent or have completed Medical Assistant Externship at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta

Preferred Qualifications

• 1 year experience in pediatrics, including obtaining vitals, assisting clinical staff with patient care, phlebotomy, and specimen collection procedures

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent


• Completion of a medical assistant training program from an accredited school or emergency medical technician or hospital or physician office-based training as a patient care technician or equivalent

Certification Summary

• Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment

• Initial competencies as defined by department must be completed within 3 months of employment

• Must be able to successfully pass the Basic Windows Skill Assessment at 80% or higher rating within 30 days of employment

Job Responsibilities

• Assists in basic delivery of patient care as assigned/directed by licensed professional personnel utilizing and integrating age-appropriate standards, knowledge of growth and development, infection control and body substance precautions, patient safety, and body mechanics.


• Completes assigned tasks/orders from provider.


• Demonstrates competency during intake process, inclusive of accurate vital signs.


• May be asked to demonstrate competency in, but not limited to, phlebotomy skills, simple medication or vaccine administration, spirometry testing, and performing radiographs under the direction of a physician.


• Utilizes proficient organization and communication skills in prioritizing, delivering, and documenting patient care.


• Performs multiple, concurrent tasks in frequently stressful and fast-paced environment while maintaining strong internal and external customer service standards.


• Serves as liaison between patients/families and department staff by greeting patients/families, informing families of delays, relaying messages, and offering assistance/other services families may require.


• Performs administrative duties to promote efficient operations, including participating in office opening/closing procedures, answering phones, maintaining waiting room/patient diversion materials, restocking complimentary beverages, and updating wait-time boards.


• Understands and complies with infection control, safety, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration procedures and regulations.


• Demonstrates competencies that incorporate age-specific guidelines, including N = Neonate (less than 30 days), I = Infant (30 days to 1 year), EC = Early Childhood (1-5 years), LC = Late Childhood (5-13 years), A = Adolescent (13-17 years), AD = Adult, and ALL = all ages.
