Position Overview:

UPMC is seeking a Medical Assistant to join the ENT department at Shadyside. The hours for this position are Monday through Friday, primarily during daylight hours. No evenings, weekends, or holidays are required. This role involves both back office and front office duties. Previous Medical Assistant experience is preferred.

Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary based on their experience and education, following the Medical Assistant Career Ladder.

Responsibilities:
  1. Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with HIPAA and other regulations.
  2. Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referrals, complete forms, schedule appointments, verify insurance, and manage patient charts.
  3. Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments, clean and maintain equipment, and manage inventory of supplies.
  4. Organize patient flow, assist patients with mobility and procedures, and collect patient information and vitals.
  5. Answer calls and provide patient education as needed.
  6. Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and other clinical procedures; assist physicians and document patient information.
  7. Maintain compliance with regulatory agencies and ensure confidentiality of medical records.
  8. Administer injectable medications and vaccines under supervision.
