Job Description

Responsibilities:

The Medical Assistant assists physicians in assessing, examining, and treating patients. Responsibilities include managing patient flow and performing diagnostic procedures such as EKGs, phlebotomy, injections, and measuring vitals. Acts as a liaison to physicians to ensure patient satisfaction. Maintains and orders supplies for their area as needed.

  1. Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and staff in accordance with Jefferson's values.
  2. Escorts patients to exam rooms and verifies proper identification.
  3. Performs and documents vital signs, clinical care quality measures, and medical history information.
  4. Remains proficient with the use and documentation within information technology systems within scope of practice.
  5. Assists physicians with examinations and diagnostic procedures, and may perform EKG and venipuncture/injections using appropriate skills to ensure quality care.
  6. Adheres to HIPAA privacy and security guidelines.
  7. Orders clinical supplies to maintain inventory and support smooth office operations.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Familiarity with medical office procedures.
Education & Experience:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Medical Assistant Certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • BLS certification through the American Heart Association must be obtained within 90 days of hire. BLS through the American Red Cross may be acceptable at some Pennsylvania locations.
  • Experience in a physician’s office or healthcare setting is preferred.
  • For NJ Only: Graduate of an accredited post-secondary medical assisting program with at least 330 hours of instruction, including training in administering intramuscular and subcutaneous injections.
  • For internal Einstein applicants: Medical Assistant certification is not required if currently employed in a Medical Assistant role at Einstein prior to 07/01/2024 when transferring within Einstein entities.
