Job description

Position Summary

The Medical Assistant III (MA III) serves as a senior-level medical assistant, providing direct patient care and administrative support in a high-volume clinical setting. This position functions as a leader within the Medical Assistant team, offering mentorship, advanced clinical support, and coordination of patient care services. The MA III plays a key role in ensuring efficient clinic operations while maintaining a trauma-informed, patient-centered approach. This position will be responsible for coordinating and implementing the MA education and competency program. This grant funded position will coordinate the interactions between CCH and NIMAA and facilitate the “Building a Pipeline for Diverse Medical Assistants” program. That work includes educational oversight of current CCH Medical Assistants, as well as the NIMAA externs.

Duties / Responsibilities
  • Provides advanced-level clinical support to medical and behavioral health providers, ensuring the highest standard of patient care.
  • Serves as a mentor and preceptor for newly hired and junior medical assistants, assisting in training and competency assessments.
  • Coordinates patient care activities, including follow-ups, appointment scheduling, and lab processing, ensuring smooth clinic operations.
  • Conducts complex clinical procedures such as venipuncture, wound care, electrocardiograms (EKGs), spirometry, and diabetic foot checks.
  • Performs advanced medication administration, including intramuscular (IM) and subcutaneous (SC) injections, in accordance with clinic protocols.
  • Facilitates team huddles and contributes to care coordination meetings to enhance interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Assists in maintaining regulatory compliance, including infection control procedures, HIPAA compliance, and documentation standards.
  • Supports provider efficiency by assisting with medical scribing and accurate documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Collaborates with external healthcare partners to coordinate patient referrals, hospital follow-ups, and continuity of care.
  • Assumes leadership responsibilities within the medical assistant team, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Compliance with state and federal healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA standards.
  • Plan, implement, and track annual competencies for all medical assistants.
  • Support participants from the NIMAA program in their educational development.
  • Lead all reporting activities required under the grant.
  • Create an evaluation tool to be used by program participants to improve future cohorts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications and Competencies
  • Education
    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Successful completion of a Medical Assistant program or equivalent training (e.g., Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)).
  • Experience
    • Preferred experience in ambulatory, public, community, or mental health,
    • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Medical Assistant, preferably in a high-volume clinic or community health setting.
  • Preferred Qualification Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Job Competencies
    • Expertise in advanced clinical procedures and medical assistant best practices.
    • Strong leadership and mentorship skills, with the ability to train and support junior staff.
    • Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems, including patient documentation, scheduling, and task management.

The typical work schedule is structured, yet flexible scheduling is available as needed to accommodate the varying demands of our healthcare services.
  • The Recuperative Care Center at the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless (CCH) provides acute and post-acute medical care for individuals experiencing homelessness who are too ill or frail to recover from a physical illness or injury on the streets but do not require hospital-level care. The RCC offers a safe, secure, and restful environment where patients can access nursing staff, case management assistance, and follow-up treatment.
    • Experience in respite care is a plus
  • This position is funded through a 2 year grant.
