Job summary

New Directions Northwest in Baker City, Oregon, is seeking a compassionate Medical Assistant (MA) to join the Recovery Village Medical Detox & Crisis Respite team. You will work closely with RNs, prescribers, and behavioral health clinicians to provide medical care to individuals in detoxification and crisis respite services.

The role focuses on admissions, vital signs, medication support, documentation, and trauma-informed care in a 24/7 setting.

Qualifications

• CMA/RMA or equivalent certification from an accredited program.
• CPR and First Aid certification.
• Minimum of one year of clinical experience in healthcare, preferably behavioral health.
• Valid Oregon driver’s license and driving record.
• Ability to complete background check.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and infection-control practices.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to maintain accurate clinical documentation.
• Ability to stay professional in fast-paced or crisis situations.

Responsibilities

• Assist RNs with admissions/intakes, collect vital signs and health histories.
• Support nursing staff in monitoring detox/crisis respite clients.
• Observe for distress or withdrawal signs and communicate to RN/prescriber.
• Assist with medication preparation and administration per policy.
• Maintain accurate MARs and reconcile controlled substances with licensed staff.
• Document vital signs, observations, and MAR-related activities in the EHR.
• Maintain confidentiality of protected health information.
• Participate in shift handoffs and coordinate with team members.
• Coordinate with external providers, pharmacies, and referrals as directed.
• Assist during medical or psychiatric emergencies per protocols.
• Support infection-control, PPE, and safety practices.
