Job Summary - CORRECTIONAL HEALTH

The Medical Assistant is responsible for supporting nursing and medical staff in patient care, performing routine administrative and clinical duties. The Medical Assistant coordinates activities in outpatient and procedural areas to ensure smooth patient flow.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. Education: High School diploma or equivalent and completion of a Medical Assistant program.
  2. Licensure/Certification: Medical Assistant certification from one of the following:
    1. American Medical Technologists (AMT)
    2. American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
    3. National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
    4. National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
    5. National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP)
    Certification in Vision and Hearing, as appropriate to the specialty, within six (6) months of hire.
    Basic Life Support (BLS) from a hospital-based American Heart Association (AHA) approved program. Other certificates as required by the unit/service.
  3. Work Experience: One (1) year of recent relevant experience in a healthcare facility preferred.
  4. Skills/Knowledge: Specialty-specific competency validation may be required in a specialty area.
Special Requirements
  • Communication Skills: Above average verbal skills (heavy public contact), writing and report composition.
  • Language(s): Bilingual skills preferred.
  • Proficiencies: Computer skills.
