We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Medical Assistant (Clinical Testing Specialist) to perform clinical testing using medical equipment (e.g., in-office diabetic retinal eye exams, peripheral artery disease (PAD) screening, and pulmonary function testing).

This position requires routine travel to multiple clinic locations in the region. The ideal candidate will be flexible, self-directed, and committed to delivering high-quality care across various clinic sites in the greater Houston area.

This role supports the early detection and management of chronic conditions for our most vulnerable patient population. The ideal candidate is comfortable using diagnostic equipment, works well independently, and is passionate about preventative care and patient education.

  1. Perform diabetic retinal eye exams using the Welch Allyn RetinaVue Imager.
  2. Educate patients about the importance of diabetic eye screening.
  3. Capture and transmit high-quality retinal images to the reading center.
  4. Maintain camera equipment and adhere to cleaning protocols.
  5. Ensure accurate and timely documentation in the EHR.

Peripheral Artery Disease Screening (QuantaFlo) – 10% of time:

  1. Perform non-invasive QuantaFlo testing to identify signs of PAD.
  2. Provide patient education and ensure comfort during the exam.
  3. Record results and escalate abnormal findings for provider review.
  4. Support coordination of follow-up care when needed.

Spirometry Testing – 10% of time:

  1. Administer spirometry tests according to ATS standards.
  2. Coach patients through test steps for reliable and valid results.
  3. Calibrate and maintain spirometry equipment.
  4. Document and share findings in a timely manner with providers.

General Responsibilities – 10% of time:

  1. Travel to assigned clinic sites and manage testing workflows efficiently.
  2. Outreach to patients for scheduling and/or appointment confirmation.
  3. Maintain and organize diagnostic testing supplies and equipment.
  4. Ensure proper infection control and safety procedures.
  5. Collaborate with value-based care team, providers, and clinical staff to identify patients eligible for screenings.
  6. Participate in quality improvement efforts related to chronic disease management metrics.

Qualifications

Required:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. Certified Medical Assistant or eligible within 90 days of hire
  3. Current MA certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent)
  4. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for regional travel
  5. Comfortable using medical diagnostic equipment and EHR systems
  6. Strong communication and patient education skills
  7. Attention to detail and ability to follow clinical protocols

Preferred:

  1. Experience with clinical testing in a primary office setting.
