Job summary

3M HEALTHCARE in Purchase, NY is seeking a Medical Assistant (MA) to support physicians, PAs or NPs with patient care, room preparation, documentation in the EHR, and efficient patient flow. The role includes taking vital signs, updating medication lists and allergies, and assisting with exams and procedures in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Qualifications

  • High-School Diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Graduated from an accredited medical assistant or phlebotomy program (required).
  • 0-1 year related work experience (required); 2-4 years preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire (required).
  • Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing (required).
  • Ability to organize and perform multiple tasks in a timely manner (required).
  • Basic proficiency in computer use (required).
  • Ability to commute to satellite offices as needed (required).

Responsibilities

  • Prepares the examination room; escorts patients into the room; cleans exam room after visits.
  • Maintains efficient patient flow and prepares pertinent information for each visit.
  • Communicates & provides care consistent with age, cultural, spiritual and developmental needs of patients.
  • Answers the telephone appropriately; directs calls or takes accurate messages.
  • Schedules appointments accurately and appropriately according to departmental guidelines.
  • Consistently stocks examination rooms with all necessary supplies and assists in ordering and maintaining supplies as assigned.
  • Reconciles encounters daily and accurately, according to policy guidelines.
  • Communicates problems, concerns or issues to the Supervisor/Manager promptly.
  • Obtains vital signs (BP, temp, pulse, height & weight) accurately and documents them in EHR.
  • Reviews and updates medication lists and accurately documents known allergies in the EHR.
  • Demonstrates understanding of prescription control and refill procedures; records allergies accurately.
  • Appropriately enters orders and schedules appointments in the Practice Management System (PMS) and EHR.
  • Provides referrals and/or consult orders appropriately and in a timely manner in the PMS and EHR.
  • Adheres to universal safety precautions when administering medications and disposing of medical waste.
  • Maintains proficiency with department-specific equipment; troubleshoots and reports malfunctions promptly.
  • Facilitates transition of care to UCC/Hospital.
  • Demonstrates flexibility with various work schedules; performs all other duties as assigned.
  • Recognizes and performs duties that are not directly assigned.
  • Provides scribing services.

Pay Range

$22.02–$27.07 hourly.
