Job Description

Position Summary :

The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for assisting physicians, PAs, or NPs with clerical duties, patient flow, patient care, and procedures.

Essential Job Functions :

  • Prepares the examination room, escorts the patient into the room, and cleans the room after the exam.
  • Ensures proper preparation for patient visits and prepares pertinent information needed.
  • Communicates and provides care consistent with the patient's age, cultural, spiritual, and developmental needs.
  • Answers calls appropriately, directs calls, and takes accurate messages.
  • Schedules appointments accurately and according to departmental guidelines.
  • Stocks examination rooms with necessary supplies and assists in ordering and maintaining supplies.
  • Reconciles encounters daily and accurately per policy guidelines.
  • Communicates issues to supervisors promptly.
  • Understands and performs within scope of practice.
  • Obtains vital signs : BP, temperature, pulse, height, and weight; documents in EHR.
  • Reviews and updates medication lists and allergies in EHR; understands prescription procedures.
  • Documents allergies accurately in EHR.
  • Enters orders and schedules in Practice Management System (PMS) and EHR.
  • Provides referrals and consult orders timely.
  • Adheres to safety precautions when administering medications and disposing of waste.
  • Maintains proficiency with equipment and reports malfunctions.
  • Facilitates transition of care to UCC/Hospital.
  • Demonstrates flexibility with work schedules.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Provides scribing services.

Education, Certification, and Training Requirements :

  • High School diploma or GED; associate degrees preferred.
  • Graduated from an accredited medical assistant or phlebotomy program.
  • 0-1 year related experience; 2-4 years preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or within 30 days of hire.
  • Effective communication skills in English.
  • Organizational skills and computer proficiency.

Travel : Ability to commute to satellite offices as needed.

Pay Range : $22.02 - $27.07 hourly. Compensation based on experience and location.
