Job summary

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to support clinicians and keep clinics running smoothly. You will prepare patient charts, record vital signs, and assist with exams under supervision.

Responsibilities include basic lab work, phlebotomy, EMR documentation, and referral scheduling to ensure efficient patient care. High school diploma or GED, WA MA certification, CPR, and preferred MA experience required.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant certification program or equivalent.
• WA Medical Assistant Certification and CPR/BLS required.
• Preferred: One year of Medical Assistant experience.

Responsibilities

• Greet and prepare patients for visits; record vital signs and patient data; assist with examinations under supervision.
• Perform basic lab work and phlebotomy; draw blood; perform EKGs; administer medications per protocol.
• Document visits and procedures in the electronic medical record per procedures.
• Review documentation to validate information and ensure accuracy of the medical record.
• Prepare, sterilize, and maintain instruments; keep rooms clean and stocked; manage supplies.
• Schedule appointments, ultrasounds, tests, and referrals; coordinate with departments and clinics.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Medical Assistant, you'll keep the day running smoothly and efficiently for your patients and clinical team.

Every day, you will take the lead on proactively preparing patient charts, ensuring all information is obtained and up-to-date for those seen in our facility. You can expect to have multiple patients daily depending on the number of physicians are on-site.

Your success in this role comes from your enthusiasm to help others, work efficiently, and your empathy for our patients.

• Greets and prepares patients for practitioner visit; obtains and records vital signs and other appropriate information such as height, weight, drug allergies, current medications and presenting problems; positions, drapes and cleans up after examinations under Provider supervision; provides patient mobility assistance as necessary.
• Performs basic lab and phlebotomy procedures, draws blood and performs EKG’s and laboratory procedures, administers approved medications via oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular or intradermal routes, informs patients of lab results, and mails reports to patients, under the supervision of provider.
• Documents, in the electronic medical record, medical visits/procedures performed by healthcare providers in accordance with established procedures.
• Reviews medical documentation to validate information and to identify inconsistencies/errors and facilitate overall accuracy of the medical record in accordance with established procedures/requirements.
• Prepares, cleans and sterilizes instruments; disposes of contaminated items in accordance with established standards; keeps exam rooms clean, orderly and well stocked; maintains adequate inventory of supplies; anticipates provider’s need for medications, supplies, and equipment and plans accordingly.
• Schedules appointments to include office visits, ultrasound, non-stress tests and processes/authorizes referrals to other Medical Care Providers, Clinics and facilities as instructed; works with the other CHI-FH Departments in scheduling appointments for mutual clients.

• One year of work experience as a Medical Assistant
