Job Description And Duties

Limited Term 12 months; may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.

This classification is subject to Section 5, Hiring-Above-Minimum (HAM) Authorization of the California State Civil Service Pay Scales. The authorized HAM rate is $4423.

Under supervision of the Supervising Registered Nurse II/III, Correctional Facility, and clinical supervision of a Physician or Surgeon, the Medical Assistant provides support in various healthcare settings. Responsibilities include patient-oriented procedures, supporting daily clinic operations, effective communication with patients and healthcare team members, and administrative duties.

Minimum Qualifications

• Valid certificate from an agency approved by the Department of Consumer Affairs, Medical Board of California, to practice as a Medical Assistant.
• Active certification status prior to appointment.

Approved agencies include: American Association of Medical Assistants, American Medical Certification Association, American Medical Technologists, California Certifying Board of Medical Assistants, Multi-skilled Medical Certification Institute, Inc.
