Job summary

UPMC Williamsport is seeking a Full-Time Medical Assistant for our Orthopedics office. The role supports physicians with patient care, clerical and organizational tasks, and serves as the lead on day-to-day workflow issues. Training includes EKG, phlebotomy, TB testing, and CLIA lab procedures.

Responsibilities include documenting patient info in the record, coordinating with the manager to improve processes, and ensuring HIPAA compliance. BLS/CPR and MA certification are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Medical Assistant program completion or national certification required.
• Graduate from LPN/RN/EMT or paramedics program with certification maintained is acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Attend routine staff meetings to communicate procedural changes for service quality and safety.
• Support department goals and assist with orientation of new staff.
• Relay instructions and education to patients per provider instruction.
• Document patient information into the medical record and maintain confidentiality.
• Collaborate with the manager to identify clinical/nonclinical improvement opportunities.
• Serve as super user of EPIC Care as assigned.
• Attend competency training and demonstrate proficiency in clinical tasks (EKG, phlebotomy, TB testing, wound care) as per policy.
• Handle medical records per HIPAA rules and coordinate forms/requisitions as needed.

UPMC Williamsport has a Full-Time Medical Assistant opening in our Orthopedics office!

Hours: Full-Time 40hrs/week

Shift: Days (7:45a-5p) | Monday thru Friday | no weekends/holidays

Purpose:

Assist physicians with various aspects of patient care (including clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks) ensuring patient satisfaction. In addition to core Medical Assistant responsibilities, serves as lead person for team regarding day-to-day workflow issues or office procedures.

Responsibilities:

• Attends routine meeting with staff to communicate procedural changes to improve service quality and patient safety.
• Participates in implementation of department goals, processes and procedures. Assists with orientation of new staff members.
• Relay instructions and education to patients per provider's instruction.
• Document patient information into the medical record and adhere to all confidentiality requirements and policies.
• Works directly with the manager to identify opportunities for improvement in regards to clinical/nonclinical functions, infection control procedures.
• Serves as an office super user of EPIC Care as assigned.
• Must attend competency training and be responsible and demonstrate proficiency in all practice category specific tasks from training. Includes but not limited to taking vital signs, medication and vaccine administration and passing medication test, CLIA testing collection of labs, TB skin testing, wound care and dressing change and other specific clinical functions (EKG, phlebotomy, ear irrigation) with training and perform clinical procedures according to policy an procedure.
• Send and receive patient medical records in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations.
• Obtain lab/xray reports, hospital notes, referral information. Complete forms/requisitions as needed. Schedule appointments. Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.
• Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol, room patients and prepare for examination.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Successful completion of Medical Assistant program, or a national certification from a national certifying organization (AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, or NHA) or graduated from a LPN or RN or EMT/Paramedics program (must have received and maintained their certification if EMT) required.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
