JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking a Medical Assistant, Certified to be an integral member of the healthcare team and provide direct and indirect care to patients at the Duke Perinatal Clinic at 2608 Erwin Road in Durham, NC. This position allows the unique opportunity to get to know patients during their prenatal period and for continuous learning as the patients have a variety of health conditions. Professional development opportunities include advancing on the CMA clinical ladder and participating in clinic committees.

$7,500 Commitment Bonus Eligible | Paid out in 2 equal installments over 12 months in 6-month increments (6 months and 12 months).

**Only new hires who have not worked for Duke University Health System in the past 12 months (at the time of offer) are eligible to receive the Commitment bonus.**

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Perform intake with patients to include vital signs, visit information, and other clinical information as indicated.
  2. Room patients, complete direct patient care.
  3. Complete abstracts/FMLA paperwork, sterilize instruments, participate in committees.
  4. Administer medications to patients as ordered by providers or by established protocols following the six rights of medication administration.
  5. Assist providers with procedures such as pelvic exams, collecting cultures/pap smears, endometrial biopsies, IUD placements, etc.
  6. Phlebotomy.
  7. Perform tasks such as set up for clinical procedures, EKG, high level disinfection & sterilization, record abstractions, FMLA paperwork completion and other miscellaneous appropriate tasks within scope of practice.
  8. Participate in performance improvement projects and/or clinic committees and assist in Joint Commission preparedness.

JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required. Please specify on resume which certification you have and the expiration date.
  2. BLS required.
  3. Level I -- Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant program strongly preferred. High school or GED graduation required.
  4. Level II -- Graduation from a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) strongly preferred. High school or GED graduation required.
  5. Level I -- No experience required.
  6. Level II -- 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified in a clinical setting.
