  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following policies and procedures.
  • Verify patient information by interviewing patient and confirming purpose of the visit.
  • Obtain prior authorizations/referrals for procedures
  • Coordinate scheduling and out of pocket expense with patient for elective procedures.
  • Secure patient information and maintain patient confidence by keeping patient information confidential.
  • Verify patients’ insurance is active plus verify copay amount due at discharge.
  • Prepare patients for exams by collecting medical history, vital signs and required clinical information.
  • Document patients' current medications and all allergies.
  • Assist provider during testing, examinations and procedures when needed.
  • Follow provider's instructions to complete patient treatment.
  • Provide and record all medications and immunizations ordered by provider and given to the patient.
  • Take patients’ specimens and carry out laboratory test(s) ordered by the provider.
  • Stocking exam rooms.
  • Keep supplies ready by taking inventory of stock; communicate with the manager when an order needs to be placed.
  • Perform administrative duties such as answering incoming calls, returning calls, and verifying lab and x-ray reports are received.
  • Demonstrate and encourage team behavior and exceptional patient/guest experiences.
  • Uphold and promote patient safety and quality.

Education

Medical assistant certification from the Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants.

Experience

1 year of previous experience in a clinical or hospital in orthopedic environment with a strong understanding of insurance guidelines and billing rules preferred.

Additional Skills/Abilities

Excellent assessment skills, ability to work collaboratively in a team setting. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ability to work independently and effectively in a busy environment. Knowledge of EMRs and regulatory practices.
