Job summary

AtlantiCare is seeking a Medical Assistant (Certified) to deliver patient care in an ambulatory setting, assist physicians, and perform phlebotomy and CLIA testing as required. The role includes remote intakes for the Virtualist Program and telehealth support.

Requires MA program graduate, HS diploma, and national certification; BLS within 6 months. 1–3 years ambulatory care preferred; good multitasking and proficiency with clinical software expected.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program required.
  • Certification in Phlebotomy preferred.
  • BLS/HCP certified within six months of hire or transfer.
  • Graduate of a post-secondary Medical Assistance program with ~330 hours of instruction.
  • Active National Certification with NJ-approved agency required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care and support in ambulatory setting.

ATLANTICARE _____________________________________________ROLE DESCRIPTION POSITION SUMMARY The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing patient care and support within the ambulatory setting. The Medical Assistant accurately completes patient interviews, collects appropriate specimens, assists the physician with patient exams, maintains departmental inventory, provides patient education, and ensures quality direct patient care and non-professional services as directed by Physician. This position is also responsible for performing the following as required by position: phlebotomy for diagnostic studies, CLIA waived testing. This position may also complete EKGs and drug and alcohol testing. This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to team work and cooperation. As part of the Virtualist Program, this position is responsible for collecting patient intakes remotely and assisting in telehealth visits as directed by the physician. This position is not responsible for doing any hands‑on patient exams and procedures, collecting specimens or phlebotomy for diagnostic studies. For this program, BLS certification is excluded. QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of a Medical Assistant program required. LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Certification in Phlebotomy ASCP preferred. BLSHCP certified within six months of hire or transfer. Must be a graduate of a post‑secondary Medical Assistance program accredited by a national acceding agency, with a minimum of 330 hours of instruction, with special training around medication administration as per the NJ Board of Medical Examiners required. All Certified Medical Assistants must maintain active National Certification with a certifying agency approved by NJ (i.e. American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) National Center of Competency Testing (NCCT), National Health Career Association (NHA) or American Medical Technologist (AMT), Board of Medical Examiners (BME), required.As part of the Virtualist Program, BLS certification is excluded. EXPERIENCE: 1‑3 years of prior experience in Ambulatory care preferred. Able to handle high volume of interactions with frequent interruptions required. Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 30‑60 days from date of hire. PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS Demonstrates the competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position. WORK ENVIRONMENT Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the medical office environment, blood borne pathogens, including exposure to infectious disease, hazardous substances, and potential injury. This position requires considerable reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, sitting, standing and walking. This position also requires long periods of telephone work. This position frequently lifts 25‑50 lbs and occasionally lifts 50‑100 lbs. Periodic traveling to other department locations is expected. The essential functions for this position are listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool. REPORTING RELATIONSHIP This position reports to department leadership as assigned.
