Job summary

Regional One Health in Memphis seeks an experienced Certified Medical Assistant to support providers in patient exams and routine care. The role includes preparing treatment rooms, handling patient histories and vitals, and assisting with injections, immunizations and basic clerical tasks.

The ideal candidate has completed an approved Medical Assistant program and holds current CPR certification, with 1 year of CMA experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of an approved Medical Assistant program.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Active CMA/CCMA/RMA/CCMA-style certification through a national body.
  • Minimum 1 year of Medical Assistant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist physicians and providers during exams and procedures.
  • Take and record patient histories, vitals and chief complaints.
  • Collect, prepare and transport laboratory specimens; log and prep for testing.
  • Prepare treatment rooms and maintain supplies and sterilization.
  • Administer basic patient care such as injections, immunizations and dressings.
  • Perform or assist with EKGs and basic diagnostic tests.
  • Handle front desk tasks, scheduling, registration and chart documentation.

Job description

Responsible for assisting providers and other members of the health care team in providing high quality patient care.What you will doAssist physician and other providers to examine and treat patients, including handing instruments or material or performing such tasks as giving injections or removing sutures. May give medications or immunizations, administer basic healthcare or medical treatment, change dressings on wounds, and apply bandages, dressings, or splints.Obtains, identifies and records patients' medical history, vital statistics, prevention data, medications, chief complaints and other pertinent information; observes, records and reports pertinent patient symptoms, reactions, condition changes or information such as test results in medical records.Collects, prepares and transports blood, tissue or other laboratory specimens, logs specimens and prepares for testing. Performs basic laboratory test, disposes of contaminated supplies and sterilizes instruments. Performs phlebotomy functions, venipuncture and skin puncture procedures as requested or required by provider.Prepares treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping rooms neat, clean and stocked with adequate medical supplies. Maintains instruments and prepares sterilization as required.Operates electrocardiogram (EKG) or other medical equipment to administer routine diagnostic test.Prepares patient for visit, keeps them updated on the status of their appointment and assist with rescheduling or scheduling follow-up appointments. Instructs patient as to general clinic policies, patients' rights and responsibilities as needed. Explains treatment procedures, medications, diets or physician's instructions.Performs clerical duties in support of patient services to include but not limited to front desk support, patient registration and check-out, answering phones, filing/assembling charts completing tab sets, computer data entry, transcribing orders and ordering test.QualificationsSuccessful completion of an approved Medical Assistant program. RequiredCurrent documentation of a national certification as a Certified Medical Assistant through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or for the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through the American Medical Technologists (AMT) or for Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or for Certified Clinical Medical Assistant through National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) or for CCAMA through MedCA Certifications.
