General Summary of Position

Cardiology at Georgetown

Schedule: Full Time 7:30am- 4pm

MedStar Health is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant with excellent customer service and patient interaction skills to join our team. The Medical Assistant will perform clinical and administrative duties in an ambulatory care setting under supervision. Responsibilities include venipuncture, medication and vaccine administration, vital signs measurement and documentation, assisting providers with patient exams, and clerical support.

The position may involve floating to other sites within the system.

Primary Duties:
  1. Assist providers with patient preparation, procedures, examinations, and education. Support the clinical team to ensure efficient patient flow. Prepare for scheduled visits, screen patients for preventive care, barriers, safety, and fall risks. Conduct surveillance for care transitions, urgent/emergent needs, and follow-up tasks. Conduct motivational interviews and identify behavioral health needs.
  2. Report problems concerning patients and participate in quality improvement initiatives. Maintain compliance through tasks such as logging temperatures, checking medication supplies, maintaining emergency equipment, and keeping the area organized. Engage in population management activities and patient self-management support.
  3. Perform selected tests including Point of Care Testing, TB skin testing, ECG, pulmonary function, vision, and hearing tests. Remove sutures/staples, document activities in EMR, and handle follow-up tests and specimen collection.
  4. Escort and assist with patient discharge, provide chaperoning, and fulfill infection control responsibilities. Manage equipment maintenance records and drug inventories. Conduct telephone screenings and document appropriately.
  5. May insert IV catheters, urinary catheters, and administer medications and injections as trained. Utilize EMR for medication refills, test requisitions, and insurance pre-authorizations.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Experience in an ambulatory care setting or equivalent
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through American Medical Technologists within 1 year
  • Externship in a medical or ambulatory setting preferred
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred
  • Externship at MedStar Health may substitute for experience

Salary range: $19.17 - $33.08
