Baystate Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to join the Cardiology team in Greenfield, MA. The MA will support examinations, testing, and procedures, and maintain accurate medical records in the EHR.

Responsibilities include patient intake, room preparation, and assisting providers during visits, with opportunities for phlebotomy and immunizations per policy. Sign-on bonus eligibility applies for qualified external hires.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required; CPR-BLS from American Heart Association required.
  • Graduate of accredited MA program or demonstrated MA competencies with 1–3 years experience (MAI/MAII) or more.
  • Credentialing must be obtained through ARMA/AMT/CCMA/CMA-AAMA/NCMA.

Responsibilities

  • Room patients for intake, record vitals, review histories in EHR.
  • Prepare treatment rooms, chaperone patients, assist providers during exams and procedures.
  • Process provider orders, prescriptions, refills, and prior authorizations with accurate data entry.
  • Perform phlebotomy and immunizations per organization policy.
  • Discharge instructions, referrals, and scheduling follow-ups.

Make an Impact with Baystate Health Baystate Health is seeking a Medical Assistant (MA) to join our Cardiology team in Greenfield, Massachusetts. Our practice offices are part of a multi-specialty medical group with nearly 1,000 physicians and advanced practitioners serving patients across more than 60 locations in Western Massachusetts. The Medical Assistant role offers the opportunity to work in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary care team to ensure smooth patient transitions, maintain accurate medical records and support providers during examinations, testing and procedures.

Medical Assistant Responsibilities
  • Patient Intake & History: Room patients for intake, gather vital signs, review histories, document medications, and complete required site-specific screening forms in the Electronic Health Record.
  • Clinical & Provider Support: Prepare treatment rooms, chaperone patients, and assist providers during examinations, testing, and in-office procedures.
  • Orders & Documentation: Implement provider orders and standing protocols, process prescription refills, obtain prior authorizations, and accurately document all data within established timeframes.
  • Procedures: Perform independent procedures as approved by the provider, including EKGs, vision/hearing screenings, and point-of-care testing.
  • Perform phlebotomy and administer immunizations in strict accordance with organization policy.
  • Patient Discharge & Coordination: Review discharge instructions with patients, provide educational resources, process referrals, and schedule follow-up appointments.
Qualifications & Skills
  • High School diploma or GED required CPR-Basic Life Support of Healthcare Provider required from the American Heart Association required
  • This position is part of a career ladder, and the appropriate level will be determined by the organization.
  • MAI - Graduate of an accredited MA program preferred OR demonstrated competencies of MA I (evaluated by hiring manager) with minimum 1 year experience in a medical office.
  • MAII - Graduate of an accredited MA program OR demonstrated competencies of MA II (evaluated by hiring manager for level hiring for) with minimum 3 years’ current relevant medical assistant experience in a medical practice setting.
  • MAIII - Graduate of an accredited MA program with a minimum of 5 years’ current relevant medical assistant experience in a medical practice setting preferred OR demonstrated competencies of MA III (evaluated by hiring manager) with a minimum of 5 years’ current relevant medical assistant experience in a medical practice setting OR minimum of two years as an MA II at a Baystate Health with demonstrated competencies of MA III.
  • MAIV - (Internal career ladder) Minimum of two years as an MA III at Baystate Health with demonstrated competencies for promotion to MA IV. Graduate of an accredited MA program and registered/certified by a third-party credential body.
  • Credentialing must be awarded by a third-party credentialing body which can be obtained through: 1. Registered through Medical Assistant (ARMA) - (Minimum Requirement); 2. Registered through American Medical Technologist (AMT) association; 3. Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) through the National Healthcare Association (NHA); or American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA); or 4. Nationally Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) through National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).
Practice Specific
  • Assist in visits and procedures for patients seeking abortion services or services for pregnancy loss, such as collecting supplies, printing consents, organizing instruments and medications, and/or assisting during the insertion of cervical dilators for surgical abortion procedures.
  • Assist provider with pelvic and breast exams for all patients.
  • Assist with cervical cytology screening and filling out appropriate forms
  • Assist with in-office surgical procedures such as miscarriage management, biopsies, colposcopy, and LEEP procedures of the cervix.
  • Assists with transgender and non-binary patients seeking gender-affirming therapy and/or surgery
Schedule Details

Job Type: Full-Time, 40 hours per week Shift: M-Fri, 8:30a-5p No weekends or holidays

Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees. Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum $20.79 - $26.28 - $34.33
