Job summary

Baptist Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to support an outpatient Cardiology clinic. The role involves direct patient care, vitals, medication reconciliation, and coordinating tests and appointments.

The position requires on-site presence, strong communication, and the ability to manage the electronic health record (EPIC). A retention bonus is offered for new hires meeting eligibility criteria.

Qualifications

• 1+ year of experience as a Medical Assistant in a medical office, clinic or similar setting.
• Experience must include direct, hands-on patient care in a clinical setting, such as obtaining vital signs, documenting patient history and medications, and performing clinical procedures (e.g. EKG’s, phlebotomy, administering injections or vaccines).
• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant training program, that includes hands on patient experience as part of the curriculum, required.
• Must successfully complete MA orientation; those who do not meet required standards will be enrolled in the Medical Assistant Trainee Program for development.
• Basic computer skills; experience with EMR System a plus.
• Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association within 90 days of hire.
• BAT and DOT certifications required for Medical Assistants in Occupational Medicine within 90 days of hire.
• Preferred Qualifications: Current Medical Assistant Certification from AAMA, AMT, NAHP, NCCT, or AAMP.
• Or graduate of an accredited LPN or RN program with current unrestricted licensure.
• Upon hire, MA orientation and competency assessment; trainee program if standards not met.

Responsibilities

The Medical Assistant provides direct patient care and clinical support within an outpatient clinic. Responsibilities include obtaining vital signs, reconciling medications, collecting patient history, and facilitating patient flow.

Additional duties involve managing the electronic health record (EPIC), scheduling appointments, processing medication requests, handling prior authorizations, and coordinating tests and procedures. Upon successful completion of clinical competency, the role may also require performing EKGs, lab tests, injections, and/or phlebotomy.

Strong communication and organizational skills are essential to ensure efficient patient care and support for providers. This role requires regular on-site presence to perform the essential job functions.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or General Education Equivalency
• 1+ year(s) of experience as a Medical Assistant in a medical office, clinic or similar setting required.
