Mass General Brigham Medical Group Western Massachusetts, Inc. is seeking a 40-hour Full-time Medical Assistant to support our Cardiology practice onsite at Cooley Dickinson’s Atwood Health Center in Northampton, MA.

The role focuses on clinical and non-clinical patient services, including vital signs, documentation, scheduling, and patient flow. Requirements include 1–2 years of MA or related experience, High School Diploma or Associate's in Medical Assisting (degree not required if experience

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Associate's Degree in Medical Assisting preferred; can experience substitute? No
• 1–2 years of direct MA experience or medical field work required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; CMA preferred
• Onsite clinic work in Northampton, MA

Responsibilities

• Assist with day-to-day questions for junior Medical Assistants and help with onboarding training
• Escort patients to exam rooms, prepare equipment, interview patients to obtain medical information, measure vital signs
• Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients and provide educational materials
• Perform general office duties, answer phones, take dictation, and coordinate with departments while advocating for patients
• Collect blood, tissue, or other specimens, log them, and prepare for testing; phlebotomy if competent
• Maintain immunizations inventory and check expiration dates
• Provide immunizations as applicable with required certification or supervision
• Support quality initiatives such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene

Job Summary

The practice is located on the 3rd floor of Cooley Dickinson’s Atwood Health Center at 22 Atwood Drive in Northampton, MA. The Atwood Health Center is a multi-specialty medical office building offering a variety of Cooley Dickinson services and serving as a one-stop health and wellness destination. The practice will deliver fully integrated cardiac evaluation and treatment, including but not limited to cardiac and vascular intervention, electrophysiology, heart failure management, valvular heart disease, peripheral artery disease, and a Congestive Heart Failure Clinic. We are seeking a 40-hour Full-time Medical Assistant to support our Cardiology practice onsite Monday- Friday. We are open 8:00-am-5:00pm so shifts time are flexible within that time frame!

Summary

The role supports healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. Key responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow. This role involves direct interaction with patients to ensure their comfort and address concerns, as well as collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care.

Essential Functions

• Assists junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities and helps facilitate their learning by participating in onboarding training.
• Show patients to examination rooms, prepare necessary equipment for healthcare providers, and interview patients to obtain medical information, measure their vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in the patient's medical record.
• Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, ordering and organizing educational materials to reinforce patient education.
• Perform general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a positive customer service approach.
• Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing; perform phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated.
• Maintains inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates.
• Provides immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider.
• Responsible for improving appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.
