Job summary

Children's Hospital Colorado is seeking a Medical Assistant to support our Cardiology team. This 1.0 FTE role involves clinical and administrative duties, preparing patients, assisting exam rooms, drawing blood, and ensuring smooth clinic flow.

Shifts are 4-10 hours, 7am-5:30pm, with bi-annual travel to the Frisco clinic and mileage reimbursement. Requires pediatric/cardiology exposure preferred, plus BLS certification.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
• Pediatric or cardiology experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for visits and assist providers during exams.
• Manage general office tasks including phone/fax handling.
• Provide phlebotomy services and collect specimens.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and accurate medical records.
• Support clinic flow and referrals, including insurance pre-authorizations.

Job Overview

The Medical Assistant (MA) provides clinical support to patients and assists care providers with clinical and administrative support.

Additional Information

• Location/Dept: Cardiology
• Job Details: 1.0 FTE; 40 hours/week (non-exempt) - eligible for benefits
• Shift: 4-10hour shifts, 7am-5:30pm.
• This position will also have bi-annual travel to Frisco clinic with mileage reimbursement provided.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room; providing examination gowns and drapes; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment. Conducts quality checks.
• Provides general office support including phone and fax management.
• Serves as the preceptor for new staff, including orientation, education, skill validation, tracking, assessment and monitoring progress.
• Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
• Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential.
• Adheres to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and The Joint Commission standards.
• Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment. Reports areas of concern to next care provider.
• Supports patient care delivery by assisting health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic testing; disposing of contaminated supplies; cleaning or preparing for sterilization of medical instruments; administering medications per policy and procedures; telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies and other duties within scope.
• Assists in balancing workloads, coordinates and maintains clinic flow by coordinating with providers, and monitoring patient flow.
• Provides phlebotomy.
• Completes lab test follow up and medical record documentation.
• Prepares and completes medical record for visit by recording patient information, treatment, and test results. Assists with patient “MyChart” enrollment.
• Participates in the standardized education of patients through written instructions and answering questions as directed by provider.
• Independently initiates referrals and insurance pre-authorizations.

Salary Information

Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience. Hourly Range: $20.00 to $25.09
