Job description

BayCare is currently seeking a passionate Medical Assistant or LPN to provide outstanding customer service to our community. As Tampa Bay's leading multi-specialty group, with over 600 providers across 45 specialties in more than 175 outpatient locations throughout Tampa Bay and west central Florida, we prioritize the health and well-being of our communities.

Position Details:
  • Location: Float Team
  • Status: Full Time (non-exempt)
  • Schedule: Twelve (12) hour shifts from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM Monday through Friday, and 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday, with a rotating two days on, two days off schedule. Every other weekend work may apply, with potential weekend differential.

Responsibilities:
  1. Assist providers with patient examinations, procedures, and treatments.
  2. Handle patient histories, perform routine lab procedures, prepare specimens, and follow up on test results.
  3. Maintain patient education materials, medical equipment, and clinical supplies.
  4. Create and maintain electronic medical records (EMR).
  5. Ensure compliance with all regulatory agency standards.
  6. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Work Schedule & Travel:

The schedule involves 12-hour shifts with a two days on, two days off rotation, including every other weekend. This PRN position requires travel to satellite locations across Hillsborough, Polk, Pasco, and Pinellas counties, sometimes with minimal notice. Travel compensation includes an additional $2.00/hour and mileage reimbursement.

Skills & Qualifications:
  • Clinical, administrative, and clerical skills appropriate to the role.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong customer service, critical thinking, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with medical equipment, terminology, and computer systems.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical medical training preferred.
  • Certification & Licensure:
    • BLS certification within 30 days of hire.
    • Medical Assistant certification or active license/certification in a related field within 6 months.
    • Alternatives include EMT, NREMT, Paramedic, or LPN licensure.
  • Experience:
  • Preferred 2 years of Medical Assistant experience.

Note: Non-certified or non-licensed candidates hired for this role must obtain Medical Assistant certification within 90 days and pass within 6 months, or face employment termination.
