Position Details
  • Full-time Medical Assistant position at UPMC Altoona Regional Health Services.
  • Work Monday – Friday daylight shifts, typically 7:30 am – 4 pm, with occasional shifts from 8 am – 4:30 pm or 8:30 am – 5 pm.
  • Placement in the Medical Assistant Career Ladder based on experience and education.
Responsibilities
  1. Check schedules and organize patient flow. Assist patients with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exams, and relaying instructions.
  2. Handle patient medical records in compliance with HIPAA and other regulations.
  3. Prepare exam rooms, set up instruments, maintain infection control, and manage supplies.
  4. Comply with OSHA, CLIA, and state health regulations; maintain confidentiality.
  5. Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and basic labs; assist physicians with procedures; document patient information.
  6. Answer calls, provide patient education, and handle front office tasks like scheduling, verifying insurance, and managing charts.
  7. Under supervision, administer injectable medications and vaccines as appropriate.
  8. Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, CPR certification within 30 days of hire, and basic computer and medical terminology skills.
  9. Preferred: Phlebotomy experience.
