General Summary

Under the supervision of the Physician/Provider, assists in minor office procedures and injections, performs patient intake assessments, discharges patients from the clinic and procedures, educates patients on procedures and medication changes, as well as new medications. Manages message center including taking phone calls off voicemail and entering them into EHR, accessing OARRS reports for clinic visits and for use with prescription proposals. Is able to calculate medication due dates based on OARRS reports and patient plan of care as established by physician/provider.

Education, Licensure, Registration and Experience

• High School graduate or equivalent
• Medical Assistant certification
• Knowledge of office procedures and equipment
• Experience in giving injections
• Typing and medical terminology experience required
• CPR certification required
• Prior Authorization and Precertification experience preferred

Essential Functions

• Assist Physician/Provider with patient care as required.
• Maintain patient records, and prepare necessary forms for billing, prior authorization of meds if indicated.
• Answer telephone calls and place calls as directed.
• Document all messages.
• Follow directions as given by the Physician/Provider.
• Stock supplies and complete forms for needed equipment and supplies.
• Conduct vital signs, EKGs and pain assessment. Review H&P and MAR.
• Schedule patient visits and assist with charts.
• Demonstrate responsibility and accountability in the profession, practice, and job.
• Conduct all work activities with respect for the rights and wishes of patients, visitors, families and fellow employees.
• Display a positive attitude within the department and across departmental lines to contribute to the overall customer service program.
