The Medical Assistant, under the supervision of the unit supervisor or Nurse Manager, provides a variety of medical and clerical duties associated with patient care. The Medical Assistant maintains a pleasant, courteous and cooperative manner with patients, visitors and Center's personnel.
The above reflects the general duties considered necessary to describe the principal functions of the job and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all work that may be assigned by the immediate supervisor, Nurse Manager and/or health care provider of that may be inherent in the position as it relates to each specialty group (i.e., Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, OB/GYN, etc.)
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school graduate or GED equivalent. Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of training, education and work experience relative to the position. Must have pleasant personality, good telephone etiquette and public relations skills. One or more years work experience in medical setting with knowledge of medical terminology, CPT coding, and Medicaid, Medicare, and other third party insurance carriers billing experience.
Requires knowledge of the field of assignment sufficient to perform thoroughly and accurately the full scope of responsibility as illustrated by example in the above job description. Requires human relations skills to deal effectively with patients/visitors in person or via telephone. Must have keyboard experience and have knowledge in medical records and insurance billing. Basic ability to operate a multi-line telephone, copier, adding machine, fax machine and other office equipment.
