Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program

This posting is for students enrolled in an ABHES or CAAHEP accredited Medical Assistant program at Henry Ford College, Macomb Community College, Oakland Community College, or Schoolcraft College.

The Henry Ford Health Medical Assistant Apprenticeship is a 10-month program. As an apprentice, you will be an Henry Ford Health employee working at an ambulatory clinic for 16 hours a week. During this time, you will attend school full-time to earn your Medical Assistant Certificate. Henry Ford Health covers tuition and fees in exchange for a two-year employment commitment. Candidates must maintain excellent attendance, grades, and pass the CMA exam.

Partnerships include: MiWorks, Henry Ford College, Macomb Community College, Oakland Community College, and Schoolcraft College.

Requirements
  • 18 years or older
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Criminal Background Check
  • Pass pre-employment health screenings
General Summary

Under the supervision of a mentor, performs duties to assist in providing quality, compassionate care to patients. Responsibilities include:

  • Greeting patients, escorting them to exam rooms, and recording height and weight
  • Demonstrating competency with computerized charting systems such as EPIC
  • Attending and completing an accredited Medical Assistant program while maintaining excellent attendance at work and college
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Enrolled in an ABHES or CAAHEP accredited Medical Assistant Program
  • Agreement to obtain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate through HFMG education
