The Role You’ll Contribute

Provide clerical/office and competency based clinical support within a physician clinic, including but not limited to reception, telephone, retrieval of medical information from internal and external systems and sources. Progressive competency based clinical support including but not limited to patient greeting, rooming, vital signs, EKG, and documentation in EMR. Provide support by facilitating, communicating, and collaborating with both the healthcare team, and the patient/family to identify and meet the physical, emotional, spiritual needs of the patient. Demonstrates personal accountability for relationship-based care, organizational mission, and core values. The MA Apprentice position is a six month, hands on work/study program providing training and education to candidates who would like to be on a path to becoming a certified Medical Assistant. At the end of the program, candidates test to become certified.

Competency based skills Phase I

  • Patient Rooming
  • Record Patient Vital Signs
  • Progressive competency based medical assistant apprentice under the direct supervision of facility based clinical mentor and professional development and education team.
  • Perform EKG
  • EMR documentation of skills performed.

Competency based skills Phase II

  • Collecting POC test samples to include: Urine & Rapid Strep/Influenza Procedure set up and provider assistance
  • EMR documentation of skills performed.

Competency based skills Phase III

  • Collecting POC test samples to include: HGB A1C, HGB/HCT, PT/INR Venipuncture and specimen collection.
  • EMR documentation of skills performed.

Competency based skills Phase IV

  • Oral Medication administration
  • EMR documentation of skills performed

Competency based skills Phase V

  • Intramuscular Injections, Subcutaneous medication, and immunization administration. EMR documentation of skills performed

Minimum Qualifications

  • Display a caring and professional attitude at all times as well as maintaining personal and professional growth.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of employees' and patients' administrative and medical information, with no infractions.
  • Requires the ability to verbally communicate clearly and effectively with patients and co-workers.
  • Demonstrates responsibility/knowledge about commonly used medication.
  • Utilizing Electronic Health Record
  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Enrolled in AHMG based Medical Assistant training/apprenticeship program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated customer service and leadership skills; through high school organizational involvement and or previous employment. Demonstrated basic office and computer skills. Demonstrated basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, and E- Mail. Attention to detail. Desire to work with Patient Populations.
  • One (1) year medical office experience or less
