Job summary

Sanford Health in Iron Mountain, MI is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide clinical, clerical and technical support in a busy cancer care clinic. You will prepare instruments, maintain aseptic rooms, document patient data, and assist providers with exams and procedures to ensure safe, high‑quality care.

Qualified candidates will have an approved MA program or relevant on‑the‑job experience, with BLS certification within 30 days of hire.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant Program or applicable on the job clinical experience.
• If Medical Assistant Program has not been completed, must have applicable on the job clinical experience. Experience working as a Medical Assistant preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association within 30 days of hire. Valid driver’s license if travel to offsite locations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare instruments, equipment and materials; keep exam room aseptic and supplied.

Busy community-based cancer care clinic in the beautiful Upper Peninsula.

The new cancer center was opened in July of 2024.

You will work with a dedicated team of healthcare professionals taking care of patients from throughout the Central Upper Peninsula and Northern Wisconsin.

Job Summary

The Medical Assistant functions as an important member of the healthcare team by providing basic clinical, clerical, and technical support to assist providers in planning for patients’ care, comfort, and safety. Prepares instruments, equipment and materials needed for patient care; keeps exam room aseptic, neat and supplied. Obtains and documents complete patient data in a timely and accurate manner. Prepares patients for exams and assists provider with exams/tests/procedures as needed. Instructs patients in preparation for specific procedures and tests when appropriate. Performs basic procedures as ordered by provider and within scope of practice. Processes provider's orders, prepares appropriate forms, and schedules appointments and services. Arranges for hospital admission when indicated. Ensures that charges are submitted in a timely manner. Assists the provider with obtaining test results. Proficiently uses computer applications as required for patient care. Processes prescriptions as directed. Communicates with patients regarding their concerns, collects information, and relays this information professionally and efficiently to the provider. Completes clerical or insurance processes to ensure the proper documentation and submission of charges is completed in a timely manner. Regular attendance is required in order to carry out the essential functions of the position. Reviews and meets ongoing competency requirements of the role to maintain the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform, within scope, role specific functions. Other duties as assigned.
