Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to support ambulatory clinics in the Wake Forest Baptist region. The role supports patient intake, assisting clinicians, and administering vaccines, with a 32-hour workweek and a floating pool to cover Northwestern area clinics and Winston-Salem centers.

Requirements include graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program and CMA/RMA certification from AAMA, NHA, NCCT, AMT, or related bodies, plus BLS and other certifications as applicable.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program is required.
  • Two years of experience in a clinical practice setting as a Medical Assistant preferred.
  • Proficiency in medical documentation and electronic health record systems.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule patient appointments, procedures, surgeries, and hospital admissions as applicable.
  • Perform patient intake, including medical history collection, screenings, documentation, and vital signs.
  • Assist providers during examinations, treatments, and procedures.
  • Administer medications and vaccines as directed by the provider and maintain accurate medication records.
  • Collect and process laboratory specimens following policies and procedures.
  • Perform point-of-care testing and screening procedures (EKGs, hearing, vision, and pulmonology).
  • Maintain exam rooms and clinical equipment to ensure a safe patient environment.
  • Complete clerical duties including data entry and medical record documentation.

This is a full-time position (32h per week). In addition to base pay, a float pool premium is applicable.

Pay Range:

$22.90 - $34.35

The Ambulatory Float Pool provides staffing support for ambulatory clinics across the entire Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist region. For this position, we are specifically seeking clinical support staff able to support the northwestern areas of the AHWFB ambulatory region (Elkin, Hickory, Mt Airy, Sparta, Statesville, Wilkes, etc.), with coverage needs as far east as the AHWFB Medical Center clinics in Winston-Salem, NC. Clinics provide a variety of care to our patients including primary care/internal medicine, specialty care, OB/GYN, pediatrics, and others.

Education
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant programrequired
Licensure/Certification

Must have a CMA or RMA by one of the following National Organizations REQUIRED:

  • CMA from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
  • CCMA from National Health career Association (NHA)
  • NCMA fromNational Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
  • RMA from American Medical Technologists (AMT).
  • RMA from American Allied Health
  • NCMSMA from National Healthcare Worker’s Association (NHCWA)
  • NRCMA from National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP)
  • NRMA from National Registry of Medical Assistants (NRMA) and
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required.
  • Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) certification may be required within one year for select specialty areas.
Experience
  • Two years of experience in a clinical practice setting as a Medical Assistant.
  • Previous clinic or ambulatory care experience preferred.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Support the organization’s mission, vision, values, and patient care standards.
  • Schedule patient appointments, procedures, surgeries, and hospital admissions as applicable.
  • Perform patient intake, including medical history collection, screenings, documentation, and vital signs.
  • Assist providers during examinations, treatments, and procedures.
  • Administer medications and vaccines as directed by the provider and maintain accurate medication records.
  • Collect and process laboratory specimens in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Perform point-of-care testing and screening procedures, including EKGs, hearing, vision, and pulmonary assessments.
  • Maintain exam rooms, treatment areas, clinical equipment, and supplies to ensure a safe and efficient patient environment.
  • Complete clerical and administrative duties, including answering phones, data entry, insurance form processing, and medical record documentation.
  • Adhere to infection prevention, safety, and biohazard handling protocols.
  • Accurately document patient care activities in the electronic medical record.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support clinic operations.
