Job Details

Salary Range: $21.44 - $33.16 per hour. Actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, skill level, and education.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for maintaining a professional environment, ensuring a collaborative relationship with patients and physicians. The MA will assist with non-clinical tasks to ensure smooth patient access and flow, including scheduling follow-up visits, imaging, lab work, preparing chart elements, managing pre-authorizations, and acting as a liaison between providers and patients. The MA will also ensure all records are received and testing is completed prior to appointments or surgeries, providing updates to staff and patients about timing and status, and maintaining patient flow and communication within Hoag and with referring physicians.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; graduate of Medical Assistant program or one year of medical back-office experience, preferably in an acute healthcare setting.
• Basic keyboarding skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field.
• Minimum one year of medical back-office experience in an acute healthcare environment.
• Working knowledge of EPIC or other EMR systems.
• Bilingual or multilingual skills.

Certifications

• Required: Current BLS Certification.
• Preferred: Medical Assistant Certification, CPR certification (willing to obtain within 30 days), and Limited Phlebotomy Certification.
