We are looking for an experienced Medical Assistant to perform clinical and administrative duties.
The Medical Assistant provides high-quality, direct patient care in a team-based model to BIDHC patients and supports smooth clinical and administrative operations. The Medical Assistant works with diverse backgrounds and respects all patients and team members. Reports to the Practice Manager.
Job Description:
Primary Responsibilities:
- Perform administrative duties such as greeting patients, check-in, registration, scheduling, verification of demographic info, and managing referrals and co-pays. Use computer systems for registration and data accuracy. Schedule and reschedule appointments, support patient and visitor flow.
- Develop empathetic relationships with patients, families, and colleagues to enhance patient care and contribute to organizational goals.
- Assist patients during visits: facilitate flow, inform delays, update medication/allergy lists, review screening questions, and act as a liaison for optimal service.
- Communicate clearly with patients and team: hand-offs to providers, explain visit reasons, vital signs, and patient stories.
- Perform medical assisting duties under supervision: obtain vital signs, perform EKGs, point-of-care testing, phlebotomy, immunizations (certified MAs), and assist during procedures.
- Support Population Health by conducting outreach, health coaching, monitoring practice activity, and managing patient follow-ups for health maintenance or chronic diseases.
- Maintain medical equipment and supplies, ensuring sterilization, proper stock, and safety standards.
- Use EHR to manage prescriptions, enter orders, and document tasks for billing accuracy.
- Schedule diagnostic and lab tests, verify insurance, and manage prior authorizations and referrals.
- Ensure OSHA compliance and patient safety, report adverse events, and protect PHI.
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED; Bachelor’s in Health Science preferred.
- Medical Assistant Certification, Registered Nurse, EMT Basic, or Phlebotomy Certification preferred.
- 0-1 years related experience required.
- Demonstrated MA competencies within one year of hire.
- Basic computer skills and ability to navigate web-based applications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Medical Assistant.
Competencies include decision making, problem solving, independence, communication skills, knowledge of practices, teamwork, and customer service. Must serve diverse age groups and adhere to safety and environmental standards.
