Job summary

Circle the City in Downtown Phoenix’s Family Health Center seeks a Medical Assistant to support clinical and clerical tasks in a busy clinic serving the homeless population.

Under the direction of physicians and the Nurse Manager, you will assist in examinations, collect vital signs, and enter patient data while maintaining confidentiality and delivering compassionate care.

Qualifications

• 1 year of MA experience.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Certificate from an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
• Clinical CCMA certificate preferred.
• BLS certification required.
• Bi-lingual highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with MA Lead/Nurse to determine shift tasks and priorities.
• Maintain timely verbal communication for patient care and clinic operations.
• Enter patient data into databases accurately and timely.
• Preserve patient confidentiality and dignity.
• Check inventories, order and stock supplies.
• Assist patients with personal hygiene as needed.
• Maintain a clean, orderly, and functional work environment.
• Facilitate patient transportation as needed.
• Handle copying, faxing, and filing.
• Provide phone coverage and triage calls as necessary.

Summary of Position

Circle the City is a rapidly growing non-profit dedicated to providing high-quality, holistic healthcare to people experiencing homelessness in Maricopa County. This clinic benefits from the designation as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and provides comprehensive primary care alongside fully integrated behavioral health and case management services to more than 4,000 individuals experiencing homelessness each year.

The purpose of this position is to provide both clinical and clerical support services in a setting that delivers care to patients. The Medical Assistant ensures the continuity of client care, providing an essential link for communication involving all team members. Assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of the Physician and/or Nurse Manager.

Essential Duties

• Collaborates with the MA Lead/Nurse throughout each shift to determine work assignments and priorities, as well as communicate the status of delegated task completion and outcome of patient data findings.
• Maintains timely, ongoing verbal communication to ensure good care of patients and the effective running of the clinic.
• Responsible for collecting, collating, and entering required data and information into the applicable database or format in an accurate and timely manner.
• Treats each patient in a manner that preserves and supports patient confidentiality, patient rights, and patient dignity.
• Checks inventories on a daily basis, orders, and stocks supplies.
• Assist any patient with personal hygiene as needed.
• Assures a clean, orderly, and functional work environment.
• Facilitates patient transportation.
• Assists with copying, faxing, and filing as needed.
• Phone coverage and triage of calls when necessary.
• Performs other duties as required.
• Other duties as presented by the Supervisor, Managers, and /or Director of Facility Operations.

Qualifications: Qualifications:

Basic Knowledge and Skills:

• 1 year of MA experience.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Certificate of completion from an accredited Medical Assistant Program
• Clinical Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA) certificate preferred
• Experience in a healthcare setting environment is highly desirable
• Bi-lingual highly desirable
• Basic Life Support certification required (BLS).
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology
• Able to obtain vital signs accurately
• Ability to use a personal computer for recording patient data /history
• Proficient in reading and writing skills in English
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment
• Demonstrated interest in working with an underserved population

Physical and Mental Requirements

• Position requires extended periods of sitting and standing.
• Position requires regular bending and reaching, including transfer of patients.
