Job summary

GI Alliance seeks a Medical Assistant to support both clinical and administrative tasks. You will assist physicians, help manage patient flow, and perform clerical duties such as scheduling, charting, and insurance verification.

We value prior experience in a medical facility and familiarity with EMR systems. The role emphasizes patient care, communication, and compassionate service in a GI setting.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED, medical assistant diploma from an accredited institution, or college course in medical assisting.
  • Experience: Minimum one year in a medical facility as a medical assistant; GI practice preferred.
  • Level I status: 1–4 years with entry level supervision; >4 years may require additional supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Assist physicians with patient care, organize patient flow and accompany patients to exam rooms.
  • Perform clerical tasks: send/receive records, schedule appointments, verify demographics and insurance.
  • Support organizational duties: respect patient rights, respond to emergencies, report issues to supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job description

Position Purpose

This position may be involved in both the clinical and administrative areas, including assisting physicians with patient care and handling clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the clinical services.

Responsibilities
  • Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned, such as checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure rooms; assisting patients with walking transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, and preparing for exams; collecting patient history; checking vital signs; performing screenings per provider guidelines; assisting providers; charting; phone triage; medication administration; relaying instructions to patients and families; answering calls; and providing pertinent information and prescription verifications with physician orders.
  • Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned, such as sending and receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/X‑ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information; completing forms and requisitions; scheduling appointments; patient check‑in and check‑out; verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics; and managing and updating charts to ensure information is complete and filed appropriately.
  • Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned, including respecting and promoting patient rights, responding appropriately to emergency codes, and sharing problems related to patients or staff with the immediate supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED), medical assistant diploma from an accredited vocational institution, or a college course in medical assisting.
  • Experience: Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office. Experience in a Gastroenterology practice is preferred.
  • Requirements for Level I Status:
    • Entry level (1–4 years experience) and/or meeting the basic requirements of the job with the need for additional supervision.
    • Excess of 4 years experience if meeting only the basic requirements of the job with additional supervision.
