Job summary

UCSF Health seeks a Medical Assistant to support the Endocrine Practice, assisting with patient flow, vitals, and health maintenance. You will stock exam rooms and assist in emergencies while providing strong customer service.

In addition to clinical tasks, you will handle reception duties like scheduling and referrals, working within UCSF's modern EHR environment across medical center locations.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of MA experience in a high-volume clinical practice.
  • Active American Heart Association CPR certification.
  • Certification from an approved Medical Assistant program.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with EHR systems.
  • Ability to prioritize and communicate with patients and providers.
  • Excellent verbal, writing, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage patient flow in the endocrine practice and obtain vital signs.
  • Review health maintenance status and assist in emergencies.
  • Stock exam rooms and assist clinical staff as needed.
  • Support reception tasks: scheduling, referrals, and messages.

Job Description
JOB SUMMARY

Under supervision of the Ambulatory Care Patient Supervisor and Administrative Manager and guided by policies and procedures of the Ambulatory Services Organization, and in collaboration with clinical staff, the Medical Assistant assists in the delivery of care to patients in UCSF Endocrine Practice. General responsibilities include managing patient flow in the practice, obtaining vital signs, reviewing health maintenance status, maintaining and stocking exam rooms, and assisting in emergencies.The Hospital Assistant III also supports general administrative functions at reception including scheduling, referral management and other duties as required and demonstrates excellent customer service skills with patients and staff.The Hospital Assistant must be able to competently work in an advanced Electronic Health Record environment.The Hospital Assistant is required to comply with the Medical Center House and Telephone Standards.

Supervises no staff.

Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • One to two years’ experience as a Medical Assistant in a high-volume clinical practice
  • Active American Heart Association CPR certification
  • Certification from an approved Medical Assistant program
  • Strong computer skills, including basic keyboarding skills
  • Ability to prioritize and work efficiently with multiple forms of patient & provider communication
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong writing skills to include the ability to compose basic office communications
  • Ability to deal sensitively and effectively with patients
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with team physicians and referring physicians
  • Demonstrated attendance record
  • Professional appearance and demeanor
  • The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION
  • CPT Phlebotomy License
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent college education
  • Knowledge of medical insurance
  • Familiar with medical terminology
  • Familiar with health care policies such as HIPAA or Joint Commission requirements
  • Familiar with outpatient clinic workflow
  • Experience of Epic health records system
REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
  • American Heart Association BLS – CPR Certified
  • Medical Assistant Certification
