Medical Assistant (1.0 FTE) or LPN (0.9 FTE) - Brooklyn Park Clinic

Join Hennepin Healthcare as a Medical Assistant (1.0 FTE) or LPN (0.9 FTE) at our Brooklyn Park Clinic. This union-represented, benefit-eligible role primarily involves day shifts, with opportunities for tuition reimbursement and advancement. A sign-on bonus is available for eligible external candidates: $1,500 for Medical Assistants and $3,000 for LPNs or certified Medical Assistants.

Summary

Medical Assistant: Under the direction of physicians or care team members, provides patient-centered care meeting departmental standards.

Licensed Practical Nurse: Assists providers within the scope of practice, supporting care delivery under the supervision of providers and/or registered nurses.

Responsibilities
Medical Assistant
  • Perform clinical tasks such as administering medications, injections, immunizations, spirometry, minor dressings, and connecting patients to monitors.
  • Assist with medical examinations and procedures like colposcopy, minor surgery.
  • Collect specimens, perform screenings, review patient information, and document in medical records.
  • Provide basic patient care activities including vital signs.
Licensed Practical Nurse
  • Administer medications and immunizations under provider supervision.
  • Contribute to patient assessments, obtain medical histories, and perform basic care activities.
  • Provide patient education, transcribe orders, and manage communication as directed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Diploma or Associate's Degree from an accredited Medical Assistant program with clinical externship or military medical training.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with EPIC or similar EHR systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • 6 months related experience or externship.
  • Active certification by AAMA, AMT, or NHCA.
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Perform clinical tasks per standards.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Effective patient interview and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and prioritize tasks.
  • Basic computer skills.
License/Certifications
  • Credentialed or registered through AAMA, AMT, or NHCA within 13 months of employment.
  • Valid BLS certification or ability to obtain within three months.
Minimum Qualifications - LPN
  • Completion of an approved practical nursing course.
  • Valid Minnesota LPN license.
  • Current CPR certification.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities - LPN
  • Basic nursing skills and safe patient care.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
