Salary Range: $21.00 - $23.00 Hourly

JOB TITLE: Medical Assistant

LOCATION: Washington D.C.

HOURS: 4 DAY WORK WEEK - Monday - Thursday (Full-Time)

PAY: $21+/hr depending on years of experience

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Assists in the delivery of health care and patient care management.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Reports directly to the MA Manager/Clinical Quality Assurance Manager, Office Manager, and Director of Clinical Practices

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

None

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires normal visual acuity and hearing. Involves standing and walking. Requires exposure to bodily fluids. Occasionally lifts items weighing up to 100 pounds.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Exposure to bio-hazardous materials, medicinal preparations. Fast paced, busy medical office.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: (List may not include all the duties assigned.)
  • Checks patient electronic health record to make sure that Physicians’ notes, lab work, X-ray reports, outside tests, and other Physicians’ reports are in the chart before taking patient back to exam room.
  • Prepares patient for examination and treatment. Takes brief histories, checks vital signs and reviews Phreesia pre- visit for accuracy, and compiles patient’s list of medications.
  • Assists with Iovera, injections, aspirations, and ultrasound.
  • Administers and documents routine immunizations
  • Prepares patients by ordering X-rays or other procedures if it has been determined by the physicians’ notes that patient will need these done.
  • Gives injections, performs phlebotomy, fits patients with orthopedic appliances, splints, and dressings.
  • Follows protocols in the care and maintenance of medical equipment in office.
  • Prepares exam rooms with necessary instruments and supplies.
  • Schedules patients for outside testing.
  • Gets pre-authorization for MRIs and other patient outside diagnostics tests as required.
  • Returns calls to patients per Physician request.
  • Follows medication refill protocols when checking RX request voicemail
Example of Duties cont:
  • Acts as the liaison between triage, call center and the physicians they work with.
  • Instructs patients to give themselves injections.
  • Instructs patients the proper and safe way to do certain exercises. (Per Physician request.)
  • Provides patients with educational information per Physician approval.
  • Knows the different types of insurance that the office participates with to prepare lab specimens and requisition forms for appropriate labs.
  • Knows how to access CRISP to run and print PDMP reports for physicians when refills of Opioids and/or benzodiazepines are requested by patients.
  • Remains current with the policies mandated by Federal and local governments, Medicare/Medicaid programs and other private healthcare programs regarding handling of laboratory work.
  • Assist in the training of new Medical Assistants.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Travels to other locations when coverage is needed.
  • Handles Covid immunization, and inventory of Covid Vaccine and keeps up with Protocol.
  • Serves as a chaperone when requested.
  • Uploads US images to Medstrat

  • Knowledge of different insurance company requirements with regard to laboratory handling and billing, including appropriate co-payments.
  • Skill in assisting in a variety of medical procedures, treatments, and medication protocols.
  • Skill in taking vital signs.
  • Skill in maintaining clear notes and imputing correct data in patients’ electronic health records.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, other staff, and the public.
  • Skill in using computers

  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in the department.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to examine documents for accuracy and completeness.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS cont:
  • Skill in training new Medical Assistants in office operation and procedures.
  • Commute to other locations when MA assistance is needed
COMPLIANCE:
  • Follows compliance requirements mandated by OSHA.
  • Follows compliance requirements pertaining to collection and handling of laboratory specimens including, but not exclusive of, collection, temperature, containers and proper disposal of biohazard materials.
  • Follows guidelines for maintaining patient and corporate confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to honest and responsible corporate conduct.
  • Identifies, reports and/or prevents any fraudulent or unethical behavior.
  • Initiates notification to management if inappropriate behavior is observed within the organization.

The responsibilities associated with this position allow access to the computer “role” of ARA Nurse We are committed to enforcing minimum necessary access to our patients’ PHI by limiting the uses and disclosures of this information within our practice. In order for this employee to carry out his/her job (carry out TPO) in a manner that best serves our patients, the employee needs access the afore mentioned computer “role”. Role descriptions are explicitly defined in our HIPAA manual. Access to computer information is password protected. Upon termination of an employee, his/her password will be deleted from the system.

EDUCATION:

CMA or RN Degree

EXPERIENCE:

Two years experience in a medical office.
