Job summary

CARE CENTER INC is seeking a Medical Assistant to support patient care in a busy Washington, PA clinic. You will handle patient intake, vital signs, and initial assessments, while coordinating with physicians and nurses to ensure smooth operations.

The position requires completion of a certified medical assistant program, CPR/First Aid certification, and ability to obtain required clearances. Experience with EHR systems and a commitment to patient education are a plus.

Qualifications

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) training completed; CMA preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid certification required.
  • Must obtain state/federal clearances (PA) including FBI fingerprints.
  • Experience with EHR and basic office software.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and work in a fast-paced medical office.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule patients according to office guidelines.
  • Answer incoming calls and return calls to patients professionally.
  • Complete initial patient processing including vital signs and assessments.
  • Check lab and other results; refer abnormal findings to staff.
  • Provide therapeutic patient education to patients and families.
  • Assist Physician or NP in exam rooms as needed.
  • Dispense patient supplies or medications per physician protocols.
  • Administer injections per physician orders following safety practices.
  • Follow OSHA guidelines and universal precautions.
  • Assist in revenue cycle tasks like prior authorizations and payer communication.
  • Liaise with pharmacies, medical suppliers, and external facilities.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation per policy.

Overall Function

Effectively and professionally communicates via telephone, written and web-based interactions with patients.

Essential Functions
  • Schedule patients according to office guidelines.
  • Answer incoming calls and return calls to patients as directed in a professional manner.
  • Complete initial processing of patients to include vital signs and initial assessments.
  • Check laboratory and other clinical results, referring all abnormal findings to appropriate staff.
  • Provide therapeutic patient education as directed by clinical staff to patients, families or significant others.
  • Assist the Physician or Nurse Practitioner as needed in exam rooms.
  • Dispense patient supplies or prescribed medications as directed by the physician following protocols in place for dispensing these items.
  • With a physician order give intramuscular or subcutaneous injections following safe clinical practices.
  • Follow OSHA guidelines and Universal Precautions in clinical practice by identifying PPE needed and using that PPE as needed in the clinical setting.
  • Assist in the completion of the revenue cycle by completing prior authorizations and correspondence between the agency and insurance providers.
  • Act as a liaison as needed between the office and outside providers such as pharmacies, medical supply vendors, etc.
  • Act as a liaison as needed between the office and outside medical facilities such as hospitals, home care agencies, laboratories, and surgical centers.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records, required forms, invoices, charts, files, etc., following agency documentation guidelines.
  • Adhere to all policies, laws, regulations, codes of ethics and confidentiality as outlined by federal and state laws, and agency policies and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Successful completion of a certified medical assistant training program. Medical Assistant Certification preferred. Persons with a minimum of 2 years’ actual clinical medical experience as a Medical Assistant may be considered at the discretion of the agency.
  • Knowledge of general office procedures.
  • Hold and maintain CPR/First Aid Certification.
  • Must successfully obtain Criminal History Clearance from the PA State Police, Child Abuse Clearance from the PA Department of Human Services, and FBI Fingerprint Clearances.
  • Must not be excluded from participation in Medicare, Medicaid, or any other federal health care program.
  • Ability to occasionally assist, move, and/or transfer medical and office supplies weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced medical office.
  • Ability to complete basic work on the computer utilizing the EHR, word processing program, send and retrieve emails.
  • Able to transport oneself as program needs dictate.
